Securing Over $30 Million for West Texas While Cutting Federal Spending 

Recently, President Trump signed legislation that reduces year-over-year federal discretionary spending while delivering significant resources for West Texas. 
 
This includes over $30 million in combined investment in TX-19 for infrastructure development to expand the I-27 Ports-to-Plains Corridor, much-needed improvements for Lubbock Preston Smith Airport, and key facility upgrades that strengthen Texas Tech’s position as a world-class institution. 
 
I am proud to have worked with my colleagues and President Trump to secure these resources that will strengthen the safety, security, and economic growth of our region, while reducing federal spending overall.  
 
Since being elected Chairman of the Budget Committee, Republicans have cut record spending including $400B to date from the operating budget and $1.5T in waste and fraud from entitlement programs.

President Trump Signs My Cancer Detection and Drug Cost Reform Bills Into Law 

I am incredibly proud that President Trump has recently signed two of my bills into law – the Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act and the Better Deals and Lower Prices Act. 
 
The first represents a major step forward in the fight against cancer by ensuring that Medicare beneficiaries gain timely access to multi-cancer early detection (MCED) tests once they are approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Early detection saves lives, and this legislation will help ensure seniors are not left behind as lifesaving medical innovation advances. 
 
The second delivers long-overdue transparency and accountability to pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and helps lower prescription drug costs for American businesses and working families.

Fighting for Voter Integrity

Last week, I spoke on the House floor in support of the SAVE America Act (H.R. 7296), legislation requiring proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote and photo identification to vote in federal elections.

Only American citizens should decide American elections.

Requiring proof of citizenship to register and a valid photo ID to vote is as common sense as it gets.

Even one illegal vote is too many.

Defending President Trump's America First Trade Policy 

I was proud to stand in opposition to H.J.Res.72, a Democrat resolution to overturn President Trump’s “national emergency” on fentanyl pouring in from Canada, which allowed IEEPA tariffs to be imposed.  
 
Democrats are fighting President Trump for using the authority Congress gave him to promote and defend America's economic and national security interests.  
 
For decades, other major economies have charged us double our tariff rate. That's not free trade; that's a lousy deal for American workers and farmers.  
 
President Trump is leveling the playing field, reducing the trade deficit, driving exports to record highs, and restoring fairness and strength to America's trade policy.  

Honoring West Texas WWII Veteran J.L. Stevens on House Floor 

It was my privilege to celebrate and honor West Texas hero and World War II veteran J.L. Stevens of Big Spring, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday.  
   
At just 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Hambleton, engaging the enemy on D-Day and later witnessing the signing of the Japanese Instrument of Surrender in Tokyo Harbor. 
 
After the war, he returned home to West Texas and continued serving his community. 
 
Mr. Stevens represents the very best of West Texas and America’s Greatest Generation. Please join me in wishing him a happy 100th birthday and thanking him for his extraordinary legacy of service.
