House Republicans have been working hard to enact reforms that would stop the skyrocketing levels of federal debt and get America’s economy back on track. Unfortunately, President Biden is refusing to work with us and is playing a game of chicken with our financial future by failing to negotiate on legislation to increase the debt ceiling. Back home, I had the pleasure of hosting my 10th “Coffee With Your Congressman” town hall event of the 118th Congress in Augusta County. Additionally, from touring Our Community Place in Harrisonburg to speaking with the Roanoke Bar Association, I enjoyed meeting with organizations and businesses across the Sixth District this week, including honoring our Veterans at the Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester. As Congress prepares for a busy few weeks ahead, House Republicans are committed to holding this Administration accountable, and rest assured I’ll continue fighting for folks in our part of Virginia.
Addressing the Debt Ceiling: America's $31.7 Trillion National Debt
This week, after Treasury Secretary Yellen announced a looming June 1st deadline for Congress to raise the debt ceiling, the President agreed to meet with Speaker McCarthy and congressional leaders on the issue. Despite this, the President is still doubling down on his refusal to negotiate with Republicans on much-needed spending reforms, insisting on more blank government checks that got us into this debt crisis in the first place. Clearly, he has forgotten his decades-long history of supporting debt ceiling negotiations. During the 2011 debt ceiling negotiations, Biden claimed that legislators and the White House need to “learn that they have to have compromise.” His view then is our view now.
Meanwhile, as our Nation’s debt hits $31.7 trillion, House Republicans have passed a reasonable debt ceiling solution that would enact reforms to reduce future debt by limiting government spending, saving taxpayer dollars, and growing the American economy. It’s far past time Biden drops his “my way or the highway” attitude and works with Republicans on a responsible path forward.

This Military Appreciation Month is a time to honor and remember the patriotic men and women in uniform who serve our great Nation. It is because of their selfless sacrifice and dedication to defend our freedoms that we are able to live freely and enjoy our way of life. To all our service members, Veterans, and their families — thank you for your sacrifice and service.

I had a fantastic time at my "Coffee With Your Congressman" event this week at "Mrs. Rowe's" in Augusta County! Thank you to everyone who came out, met the team, and asked insightful questions. Stay tuned for the next event coming to an area near you!
National Day of Prayer
I am a firm believer in the power of prayer, and with God, our best days are still to come. National Day of Prayer was a great day to remind ourselves of that. May we always give thanks to God for the many blessings He has given us: faith, family, freedom, and to live in the greatest country the world has ever known.
Our Community Place
I enjoyed touring Our Community Place in Harrisonburg and learning more about their important work to care for those in need by fostering positive relationships, offering affordable housing, and instilling the value of hard work.
Roanoke Bar Association Annual Law Day
It was a pleasure to attend the Roanoke Bar Association's Annual Law Day this week and give a legislative update on what’s been happening in Congress.
Apple Blossom Festival Veterans’ Recognition
I was proud to honor our Veterans at the Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester, and we thank Navy Federal for their support. Because of the service and sacrifice of our Veterans, we are able to enjoy our freedoms and live the American Dream.
