September Update

Dear Friend,

Our state has had a particularly difficult few months between ongoing fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic, and now catastrophic wildfires and smoke. My office and I have been in touch with local and state fire officials to ensure they have all of the resources they need to fight the fires and prevent new ones. I will continue to work with them to make sure our state is protected.

I wanted to reach out with some resources for families who have been affected by wildfires and give you a brief update on what I have been working on.

Last week my office released our Wildfire Recovery Guide, which can be found here.

The state also announced Wildfire Disaster Cash Assistance. More information on that can be found here.

The Washington Emergency Division released this video to show how to use a box fan and a filter to help filter the air in your house or apartment while there is hazardous wildfire smoke outside. We have done this in my house and noticed a difference, so I encourage you to do the same!

I also wanted to make sure you were aware that for a limited time, folks on unemployment may be eligible for an $300 per week through Lost Wages Assistance. If you are eligible, you will need to certify that information by Sunday, September 20th. The funds will replace lost wages from August 1st to September 5th. Recipients will receive a one-time lump sum payment of retroactive wages beginning on September 21st. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact my Issaquah office at 425-657-1001. We have been able to assist dozens of constituents receive the unemployment benefits owed to them.

Lastly, and on a happier note, this weekend my son Sam and I hosted a Children’s Town Hall to help answer some questions from children in the district and explain tough issues like wildfires and the COVID-19 pandemic. This was my 61st town hall and I’m glad to be able to reach all 8th district residents through town halls. You and the children in your life can watch that here

As always, and especially right now, my office is here to help you. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you think we can be of assistance.

More soon.

Sincerely,
