Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update

It was another busy week in Washington! I would like to encourage you to share this newsletter with others. Please direct them using this link and encourage them to subscribe.

Lesko Meetings

I’m pleased to be a recipient of the Defender of Economic Freedom Award from Club for Growth for my 100% voting record in Congress in 2023. It’s more important now than ever that we hold our government accountable for being fiscally responsible before it’s too late.

I’m proud to be a Champion of Limited Government! Thank you to the Institute for Legislative Analysis for standing up for conservative principles and awarding me the Champion of Limited Government Award.

I met with Alexander Hoehn-Saric, Chair of the Consumer Product Safety Commission to discuss the work they do to protect the American people.

Women’s health remains one of my top priorities in Congress. I met with dsm-firmenich and the iHealth North American Leadership Team to discuss the products they produce and how they can be helpful for women going through menopause.

I joined fellow Arizona Representatives Andy Biggs, Paul Gosar, and Eli Crane at a dinner with Ambassador Yui of Taiwan to discuss the important relationship between our state and Taiwan.

Our national debt is at an ALL TIME HIGH and departments are asking for 25% budget increases? We have to start seriously addressing our debt if we want to avoid a complete crisis. For more, hear my remarks at this week’s House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee hearing on the Federal Trade Commission Budget.

One vote from a noncitizen is one too many. This week, I was proud to urge my colleagues to vote “YES” on the SAVE Act to keep American elections for U. S. Citizens.

I was pleased to cosponsor and vote “YES” on the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act) to safeguard American elections and ensure that only U.S. citizens can vote.

Get the Facts: Biden's Title IX Takedown

Title IX’s original intent was to prevent discrimination on the basis of sex, which was particularly important in granting women opportunities in education and athletics. However, the Biden Administration’s rewrite of Title IX has put all of this progress in jeopardy and expanded upon the basis of sex to also include gender identity. This change prevents schools from requiring students to use the bathrooms, or play on the sports teams, associated with their sex assigned to them at birth—essentially allowing men into women’s spaces and sports. Thankfully, four states including, Kansas, Alaska, Utah, and Wyoming, as well as independent school districts across the country have sued and blocked the Biden’s Administration’s rule from going into effect after a federal court's ruling earlier this week. House Republicans took a stand this week as well in defending the rights of young women and girls in school districts across the country by passing H.J. Res 165, which provides Congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Department of Education relating to "Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex in Education Programs or Activities Receiving Federal Financial Assistance." I was happy to vote "YES" on this legislation in support of young women and girls in Arizona and throughout the country. Although there is still much work to be done in ensuring women and girls do not have their safety disregarded by the left’s gender ideology, this week we can celebrate a win for women and girls.

Casework Highlight

A constituent was less than a week from travel plans and his passport had not been received. He had paid for expedited processing and planned on receiving it in time for his travel. Our office intervened and obtained an in-person appointment for him at the Western Passport Center. He received his passport two days before his scheduled travel and made it as scheduled on the trip.

Global Entry Process Renewal

If you already have Global Entry for traveling and have not yet renewed your membership, now may be the time. Eligibility to renew your membership begins one year prior to program expiration, but you will still be eligible to use benefits up to 24 months following your membership expiration date. Military Academy Nominations

As a member of Congress, I have the privilege of nominating a limited number of people to four of the five service academies. This would include nominating candidates for appointment to the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a congressional nomination for appointment. For more information click here.
