Dear Friend,

A day after the 10 year anniversary of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act becoming law, I was proud to join more than 200 of my colleagues in supporting H.R. 7, the Paycheck Fairness Act, which closes loopholes that permit pay discrimination in the workplace. In 2019, it seems unconscionable to me that many women are still earning less money than men who perform the same work.

When I served in the Maryland State Senate, we passed legislation to protect workers from retaliation for discussing salaries with colleagues. I was proud to advocate and vote for this legislation. In Congress, I am proud to cosponsor and advocate for the Paycheck Fairness Act. Rest assured, equal pay for equal work will always be a top priority for me. I’m working hard to close the gender pay gap and ensure equal pay for women.

We've made progress in closing the gender pay gap, but America still has a long way to go before we achieve pay equity. As always, thank you for allowing me to share this update with you. Please continue to share your thoughts, concerns, and questions by contacting my office or connecting with me on: FacebookTwitter, Instagram, and YouTube.

All Best,
