Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter. It is my greatest honor to represent Michigan's 10th Congressional District. I am here to serve you, my constituents. If you need any help with a federal agency, or want to share your opinion, please reach out to my office.

Committee Assignments

Recently, I received my committee assignments for the 117th Congress. I'm excited to serve on both the House Armed Services and House Education and Labor Committees.

On the Armed Services Committee, I will be a voice for Michigan's important national security assets including Selfridge Air National Guard Base. Almost 3,000 troops are stationed at Selfridge, and another 3,000 civilians and military personnel work on the base. We must ensure Michigan remains at the forefront of our national defense.

As a member of the Armed Services Committee, I will also be serving on the Military Personnel and Readiness Subcommittees. The Military Personnel Subcommittee gives me the opportunity to be a voice for the over 1.7 million active duty troops. The Readiness Subcommittee allows me to ensure that our armed forces are prepared for everything.

On the Education and Labor Committee, my top priority is getting kids safely back in the classroom full time, which the Centers for Disease Control says is safe for our children. I will also work to ensure our children receive the best education possible and will advocate for school choice.

As a member of the Education and Labor Committee, I will also be serving on the Higher Education and Workforce Investment and the Civil Rights and Human Services Subcommittees.

Both of these committees are vital to the successes of the 10th district, and I'm ready to bring results back to our community.

The Voter Confidence Act

Last week, I introduced the Voter Confidence Act with Congressman Lloyd Smucker of Pennsylvania. Millions of Americans have doubts with how the 2020 elections were conducted. A strong and stable election system is vital to the success of our constitutional republic.

Our legislation would create a bipartisan, bicameral commission to review the practices and policies of federal, state and local election officials and their impact on the security and integrity of the election. I look forward to working with my colleagues from across the country to ensure our elections are safe and secure in the future.

Flooding Along the St. Clair River

In recent weeks, communities along the St. Clair River have seen flooding due to ice blockages downstream. Immediately after I heard about this issue, I met with the U.S. Coast Guard to request additional assistance in breaking up the ice. The Coast Guard deployed two additional Ice Cutters and water levels are beginning to drop. I'm thankful for the assistance of the U.S. Coast Guard in this matter, and look forward to working with them as a member of the House Armed Services Committee.

Concern Over Handling of Taxpayer Dollars

Recently, I sent a letter to Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressing serious concerns involving the potential for fraud and abuse of Michigan taxpayer dollars. A recent report by the Michigan Auditor General raises serious red flags over Michigan's emergency preparedness prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

I look forward to Gov. Whitmer explaining the actions her administration is taking to ensure any wrongdoing is uncovered and prevented in the future. As elected officials, we are entrusted by the public to protect their hard-earned tax dollars from waste and abuse.

Reopening Restaurants

I've spent the past few weeks visiting restaurant leaders in our community and talking to them about the government mandated closures. I'm thankful to see the state has allowed them to reopen, but 25% capacity is not enough for many. We must reopen completely to ensure our economy recovers.

Protecting the Unborn

I am unapologetically pro-life and last week I introduced the Safe RESEARCH Act, which would amend the Public Health Act to ensure fetal tissue from an abortion is not used for research purposes. This act not only protects life, it also ensures scientists can continue important research as well as preventing abortionists from profiting from the sale of tissue from aborted babies.

Reopening our Schools

Recently, I had the opportunity to speak with students at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic School in Huron County.

I was happy to visit with these students who are in the classroom full time. We have a duty to provide the best education for our students and that starts with having them learning in the classroom. As a member of the Education and Labor Committee, I am going to advocate to get our children back in school.

The students had great questions, and I was glad to spend time with them and give a brief explanation of what a member of Congress does.
