October 11, 2019

Dear Neighbor,

I’m proud to represent so many diverse communities across our District and to serve with the largest-ever Hispanic Caucus in Congress. I join my colleagues, friends, neighbors, and constituents in recognizing the history, culture, and achievements of these communities.

As we approach the close of Hispanic Heritage Month this Tuesday, October 15th, I wanted to share with you a brief update about how I've recognized Hispanic Heritage Month across the District -- check it out below! As always, I encourage you to connect with me directly on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Stay close and take good care.

All Best,

Recognizing Latino/a/x Students in the District

In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, I recently hosted my second annual Award Ceremony for Latino/a/x high school students from across the District. I was proud to recognize 29 amazing students, who were nominated by their school principals for their exemplary commitment to community service, leadership, and academic excellence. Thanks to my District Caseworker Erica Fuentes for her work in organizing this event.

Recognizing Latina-Owned Businesses in the District

I enjoyed meeting business owners Maria Duran of the newly-opened Maria’s Cafe and Maria Peredo of Unplugged Restaurant and Sports Bar last week in Wheaton, MD.

Our state's thriving small business community depends on hardworking entrepreneurs and their families!

Expressing Solidarity With Immigrants in the District

I was proud to stand in solidarity with all our neighbors in Frederick, MD this weekend, where we celebrated the strength of our community and a nation that welcomes immigrants!

Recognizing Young Latino/a/x Professionals in the District

Lastly, I'm thrilled to share that my capable and talented Legislative Assistant Martha Sanchez was recently invited to appear on an award-winning Spanish-language television program, Linea Directa, to discuss her role in my office and the achievements of young Latino/a/x professionals in the National Capital Region.
