Medicare Open Enrollment - October 15 to December 7

Dear Neighbor,

The Medicare Open Enrollment 2019 season began Tuesday, October 15th and ends Saturday, December 7th. Medicare health and drug plan providers can make changes annually on matters like cost, coverage, and what pharmacies are in network. During the open enrollment season, all Medicare customers can change their health plans and prescription drug coverage for the following year to better meet their needs.

If you're over 65 (or turning 65 in the next 3 months) and not already getting benefits from Social Security, you need to sign up to get Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance). You won't get Medicare automatically.

Medicare beneficiaries can use the new Medicare Plan Finder to review their coverage choices and decide on the options that best fit their health needs for 2020.

The redesigned Medicare Plan Finder makes it easier for beneficiaries to:

• Compare pricing between Original Medicare, Medicare prescription drug plans, Medicare Advantage plans, and Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) policies;
• Compare coverage options on their smartphones and tablets;
• Get plan costs and benefits, including which Medicare Advantage plans offer extra benefits; and
• Build a personal drug list that is more accurate and find Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage that best meets their needs.

The new Plan Finder is just one of several resources available to support Medicare beneficiaries with decisions about their coverage options.

Information on coverage options is also available through 1-800-MEDICARE, the State Health Insurance Assistance Program, the Medicare & You handbook, or consultations with a trusted agent or broker.

As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my District Office staff at 301-354-1000.

All Best,
