National Walk to School Day With Takoma Park Students

Loved joining Takoma Park students and parents, Mayor Kate Stewart, and Police Chief DeVaul for National Walk To School Day! As a Member of the Public Education Caucus, I was eager to chat with constituents about how we can improve and support early childhood and public education at the federal level. I believe that Maryland has some of the finest schools in the nation and remain a steadfast supporter of a public education system that uplifts every child.

Criminal Justice Reform Awareness Event in Frederick

It was a gorgeous day in Frederick County as dozens of constituents and citizens came out for Delegate Lorig Charkoudian’s community event, where we discussed state and federal criminal justice reform efforts and the importance of re-entry mediation for incarcerated individuals. I was excited to join Maryland mediators, Frederick Mayor Michael O’Connor and other champions of criminal justice reform. I'm a proud cosponsor of federal legislation like the Promoting Reentry Through Education in Prisons Act and am committed to doing all that I can to strengthen the reentry process for incarcerated Americans.

Coffee With Your Congressman in Rockville

Career Day at Century High School in Carroll County

My district office staff enjoyed interacting with students at Century High School Career Day in Carroll County and discussing constituent services for students including educational congressional internships, nominations to the U.S. Service Academies, the Congressional App Challenge, and the Congressional Art Competition. Go Knights!

Rock Creek School Groundbreaking in Frederick County

My district staff was thrilled to break ground for the new Rock Creek School with Frederick County Superintendent Dr. Terry Alban, Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner, students, staff and parents and to discuss education priorities at the federal level. I'm thrilled that this new facility will specifically serve the needs of students with severe developmental and learning disabilities. A few weeks ago my congressional office hosted a roundtable listening session with parents of children with disabilities. The participants shared their experiences, perspectives, and concerns regarding America's education and health care systems. My staff and I are deeply committed to improving these systems for children with disabilities and ensuring that their parents and families feel represented, seen, and heard.

Bethesda Chevy-Chase Rescue Day

I joined the Bethesda Chevy-Chase Rescue Squad for their annual Rescue Day, which brings together members of the community, families, and children for station tours, safety demonstrations, and fun learning opportunities. The Rescue Squad is a member of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS), which recently received federal funds that I helped secure for volunteer firefighter recruitment and training. I thank the BCC Squad members for all they do to keep our community safe and remain committed to doing all that I can to secure federal funding to support their efforts.

Step Up For Down Syndrome Awareness Event in Potomac, MD

I attended the Down Syndrome Network of Montgomery County's annual awareness event in Potomac, MD this Down Syndrome Awareness Month. I'm a Member of the Congressional Task Force on Down Syndrome and a proud cosponsor of legislation to increase funding for early childhood intervention services for children with disabilities, including Down Syndrome. I was honored to meet with constituents and advocates to discuss how we can make the world a better place for children with Down Syndrome.

In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, I recently hosted my second annual Award Ceremony for Latino/a/x high school students from across the District. I was proud to recognize 29 amazing students, who were nominated by their school principals for their exemplary commitment to community service, leadership, and academic excellence.
