Join “Raskin’s Readers” Program For Elementary School Students

October 30, 2020

Dear Neighbor:

Happy Halloween!

As we mark the end of National Book Month, I encourage everyone to continue their reading journeys and explorations. With this in mind, I am thrilled to announce the launch of my first annual Raskin’s Readers learning program and bookmark design contest for elementary school students (K-5) and their families!

From October 31, 2020 to January 31, 2021, I invite students to read 10 books with help from their parents, grandparents, guardians, or other family members. Students who meet this goal will be invited to join me at a virtual reception in early 2021 to recognize their hard work and wonderful achievements. To register for the Raskin’s Readers program, please sign up here. When you have completed the program, please submit your completed reading list here

In addition to the Raskin’s Readers program, students are invited to participate in a Bookmark Design Contest. I will announce the winner of the bookmark contest at the virtual recognition ceremony in early 2021. To participate in the bookmark contest, please complete and return your design using this bookmark template. All entries should be submitted to by Thursday, January 31, 2021.

All program materials for Raskin’s Readers and the Bookmark Design Contest are available on my website here. Should you have any questions, please call my District Office at 301-354-1000 or contact Nina Weisbroth by emailing

As we continue our remote education efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, I wanted to share additional resources for students of all ages. The Library of Congress has excellent virtual student workshops available, and I invite all young people to check out those programs here!

As always, I encourage people across the 8th District to continue to share their concerns and insights with me and my staff by contacting my office or connecting with me on FacebookTwitter, or Instagram

All Best,
