Friend,

It is my greatest honor to represent Michigan's 10th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives. I am here to serve you, my constituent. If you need any help with a federal agency, or want to share your opinion, please reach out to my office.

Hearing from constituents at town halls

 Image

This week, I held three more town halls in Lapeer, Sandusky and Caro. At every single town hall, election integrity has been brought up as an issue that people are concerned about. One of the first bills I introduced was the Voter Confidence Act, which will restore trust in our elections.

I appreciated having the opportunity to hear directly from you about what your concerns are. We also talked a lot about infrastructure, the $300 federal enhanced unemployment benefits and President Biden's spending proposals. With the continued rise in inflation, May's numbers were just released and showed the highest rise in over a decade, these spending proposals are not the solution America needs. If the government continues to spend and spend, inflation will skyrocket and our children and grandchildren will be saddled with debt they will never be able to repay.

Educating our Children

Image

On Tuesday, I had the first meeting with my Education Advisory Council. This council is a group of experience educations and community leaders and will focus on all aspects of education, including post-secondary education and alternatives to a traditional four-year degree.

Manufacturing companies are among the largest employers in our district, and manufacturers are struggling to find skilled labor to fill open positions due to a skills gap and lack of information on trade and apprenticeship programs. I look forward to working with my council on finding ways to bolster our apprenticeship and trade programs in the district and provide resources to ensure our students know the benefits of these programs.

My website has a list of resources available to students who are looking at pursuing a skilled trade. These jobs provide a successful career and a fulfilling life.

Securing Funding for MI-10

This week, the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure passed the INVEST in America Act which includes almost $30 million in funding for projects I advocated for throughout our district. I am please to announce all five counties that submitted requests from our district received funding in this legislation.

These projects are true infrastructure demands that our communities need. We should be focusing on fixing our crumbling roads and bridges, not throwing trillions of dollars at Democrat pet projects that are not infrastructure.

Questioning Secretary Walsh

Image

On Wednesday, Labor Secretary Marty Walsh testified before the Education and Labor Committee. I questioned the secretary on the economic recovery, unemployment issues and urged him to commit to ending federal enhanced unemployment benefits immediately. I continue to hear from business owners throughout our district who tell me that the enhanced unemployment benefits encourage people to stay home and makes it impossible to hire workers.

I was encouraged that the secretary agreed that with millions of job openings, businesses should be able to hire the workers they need, but unfortunately he refused to commit to end the enhanced benefits. Washington is in the way and those stuck in the bubble do not know how these benefits are preventing our economy from recovering.

Meeting with Contractors

Image

This week, I held a roundtable with contractors from throughout our district. The contractors continued to reiterate how the enhanced unemployment benefits are making it hard for them to hire the workers they need.

The government is in the way of the free market. The market is trying to bounce back from the global pandemic, but President Biden and the Democrats are preventing it. Everyone I talk to says this is an issue, but the Democrats have decided not to listen to hardworking taxpayers.

Mobile Office Hours

Next week, my staff will be holding mobile office hours in Bad Axe, Sebewaing, Caro, Brown City, Sandusky and Lexington. I encourage you to attend if you are having problems with VA benefits, social security, federal taxes, getting or updating a passport or any other federal agency.
