Dear Friend,

Happy Saint Patrick's Day! I want to share a quick update with you on what I've been working on this week.

This week I introduced a resolution commemorating an important milestone in the U.S./Thailand relationship, worked to hold Gov. Newsom accountable for his ongoing attacks on American energy, and worked with my colleagues to end racial discrimination in the federal government.

Get the details about all of this and more below, and make sure to follow my FacebookInstagram, and Twitter to get these updates in real-time.

Commemorating Our Partnership with Thailand

WATCH: Commemorating 190 Years of Partnership Between the U.S. and Thailand

Today I introduced a bipartisan resolution honoring the 190th anniversary of the first agreement signed between the United States and Thailand, the 1833 Treaty of Amity and Commerce. The treaty was also the first between the U.S. and any Asian country.

This historic treaty represents the U.S.’ first agreement with not only Thailand, but any Asian country. Since its establishment, the relationship and cooperation between our two nations has thrived, providing benefit to both of our economies and national security.

More than 300,000 people of Thai descent live in the United States. Southern California is home to one of the largest Thai populations outside of Thailand, with roughly 100,000 Thais in the region.

This bipartisan resolution reaffirms our gratitude for our partnership and our continued commitment to building our friendship.

I recently joined members of the California Republican Congressional Delegation in sending a letter to California Governor Gavin Newsom addressing the recent period of high natural gas price spiking and calling on him to stop enacting policies that further exacerbate the problem.

While Governor Newsom blames the failures of leftist policies onto energy companies, families in California continue to suffer as natural gas prices keep climbing. Californians are tired of the rhetoric and finger pointing. I hear from my constituents consistently that they simply want to run their businesses, raise their families, and pay their bills. All they want from the government is to stay out of their way.

Anti-energy, progressive policies have made the cost of living skyrocket, with no plan to fix the root causes. I urge Governor Newsom to reverse course and empower our producers to do their jobs and bring down prices as quickly as possible.

Get Your Education, Serve Our Nation

Image

For students considering their next steps after high school, the Military Service Academies present an exciting opportunity to receive a world-class education and unmatched leadership skills, paid for by the U.S. Military. The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA); the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA); and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.

To request a Military Academy Nomination from my office, please complete the form on my website, and someone my office will be in touch with additional information. In the mean time, visit my website to learn more about the application process.

My team will be hosting an information night for interested applicants. Representatives from the U.S. Military Naval, Air Force, Merchant Marine, and Coast Guard Academies will be present to answer your questions about what it means to attend one of these institutions.

When: April 18, 2023 from 6:00-8:00pm
Where: Buena Park City Hall Chamber Room
6650 Beach Blvd.
Buena Park, CA 90622

Discrimination of Any Kind is Wrong

Image

This week I joined Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI) to introduce the Fairness, Anti-Discrimination and Individual Rights (FAIR) Act. This bill will prohibit the Biden administration, federal contractors, or any other recipient of federal funds from intentionally discriminating against or granting a preference to any person based on race, color, or national origin.

I’ve worked for decades to root out racial discrimination wherever it appears. I’m proud to join Rep. Tiffany to introduce the FAIR Act to prevent race-based discrimination across the federal government and ensure that the United States continues our efforts to live up to our highest ideals of liberty and justice for all.
