Friend,

Happy 4th of July weekend!

It is my greatest honor to represent Michigan's 10th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives. I am here to serve you, my constituent. If you need any help with a federal agency, or want to share your opinion, please reach out to my office.

Visiting the Southwest Border

This week, I returned to the Southwest Border with some of my colleagues and President Trump to continue bringing attention to the Biden Border Crisis. Every month, we are seeing the numbers of illegal aliens and drugs crossing our border skyrocket.

Michigan may not be a southern border state, but this crisis is going to directly impact you. Drug smugglers are taking advantage of our Border Patrol, who are being stretched to the brink by bringing thousands and thousands of pounds of fentanyl, heroin and meth into our country. These drugs are then brought into our communities.

The way that President Biden has approached this crisis is threating the lives of Americans. It is past time we return to the actions President Trump took that protected our country. Let’s finish the wall and bring back the Remain in Mexico policy. It is time to implement methods that are proven to work and put Americans, not cartels and human traffickers, first!

Green New Deal and Transportation Inflation Act

The Democrats continued their push for the Green New Deal in the House this week. On Thursday we voted on H.R. 3684, which should properly be named the Green New Deal and Transportation Inflation Act. Although there is money that will come to our district in this legislation, there are disastrous policies in it, which is why I voted against it.

This bill strips the ability of states to build new roads which harms communities that are trying to grow and expand. The priorities in this bill are for urban centers and not rural America like those in my district. This legislation also ties up $1 of every $2 in meeting climate goals, all while not providing a single revenue source.

Our infrastructure in this country is crumbling. I wish the Democrats would come to the table and work across the aisle on finding a solution. Stop trying to classify art, Medicare, childcare, paid leave, caregiving, etc. as infrastructure. Let’s do what the American people expect and fix our roads, bridges, ports and broadband together.

Natural Disasters Striking MI-10

This past weekend, we saw a devastating storm hit our community. Between a tornado hitting Port Austin and flooding in areas of Macomb County, some of our neighbors have lost everything. My team and I spent this week talking with local leaders and the Governor on finding ways to ensure the community has the resources it needs to thrive.

On Wednesday, members of my staff went up to Port Austin to help with the cleanup. The 10th district is strong. Our community is coming together to help however we can. We will get through this natural disaster.

Questioning Army Secretary Wormuth

Image

On Tuesday, I questioned U.S. Army Secretary Christine Wormuth and Army Chief of Staff General James McConville during a House Armed Services Committee hearing. China is the number one threat to the United States, and while they continue to spend more on their armed forces and defense, the budget that President Biden has submitted cuts the spending for our military.

It is appalling that Secretary Wormuth defended the cuts by saying that they are investing in the future. This budget includes cuts in research and development. I don’t understand how we are preparing and investing for the future but are cutting the exact spot where that funding would go.

We must continue to fully fund our military and ensure countries including China, Russia, Iran and North Korea are never allowed to succeed on the world stage.

Celebrating our Independence

This weekend, we celebrate the birthday of our amazing country. There are parades, fairs, events and fireworks throughout the district. Take a look below to find out where you can see fireworks this weekend.
