Dear Friend, 

On September 19th, House Republicans passed a simple, commonsense plan to keep the government open while we finish our full-year appropriations work. Our plan continues existing funding levels that Democrats and Republicans have already supported multiple times in the past. Unfortunately, Senate Democrats have voted against it 11 times and are offering an alternative plan that calls for $1.5 trillion in new government spending. 

When partisan politics shuts down the government, hardworking Americans pay the price. Our troops, border patrol agents, air traffic controllers, and TSA officers miss their paychecks while families, farmers, and small businesses who rely on timely services from federal agencies can’t get the help they need. Meanwhile, Members of Congress still get paid. 

That’s wrong. 

I’ve requested my pay be withheld during the shutdown. If federal workers can’t work or get paid because Members of Congress haven’t completed our work, we shouldn’t get paid either.
