Dear Friend,

It's been another busy week in Washington, D.C. I have been working hard to bring down health care costs for all Southern Californians across the board. That includes expanding mental health services by reducing the number of doctors visits required to get help, and making it easier to save for medical expenses. Read more about it below.

Get the details about all of this and more below, and make sure to follow my FacebookInstagram, and Twitter to get these updates in real-time.

Making It Easier to Save

I am proud to report that my bill to fix the tax code to allow Americans to transfer funds from Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Reimbursement Arrangement contributions into Health Savings Accounts has passed the Ways and Means Committee.

Currently, the law requires FSA and HRA balances to be spent by the end of the year or otherwise forfeited and returned to the employer. My bill will allow American workers, or those switching jobs, to preserve their unused FSA and HRA funds by removing this out-of-date use-it-or-lose-it policy, giving them the flexibility to save for future medical expenses tax-free, and allowing greater employer flexibility in health care spending from year to year.

The tax code should always work for Americans, not against them. By correcting this arbitrary rule, millions of Americans who rely on high deductible health care plans will be able to better save for medical expenses, tax free. I am grateful for my colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee for joining me to pass this commonsense legislation. I will never stop fighting to bring down health care costs for all Americans.

Expanding Mental Health Services

Image

Patients - including one in four Medicare recipients - often show a need for mental health services during a primary care visit. That's why I'm introducing bipartisan legislation to equip primary care doctors with mental health resources to help seniors quickly & effectively get the care they need.

Studies have made clear that collaborative care and behavioral health integration models are the most effective way to deliver care by ensuring all the necessary experts are immediately available to the patient. By equipping local primary care providers, we can help countless seniors quickly and effectively get the care they need.
