Dear Friend,

This week, the House voted to vacate the office of Speaker of the House. I want to be clear, this action was a reckless and unnecessary distraction from the very real challenges facing Americans in my district and across the country. I thank Speaker McCarthy for his friendship, his service to our country, and his leadership of our Conference.

I remain focused on fighting inflation, lowering taxes for hard working families, and securing our communities. That's what you sent me here to do, and I will continue to deliver. That's why, this week, I'm calling on the Administration to fight back against European Union regulations that will harm American manufacturers. I also introduced legislation to commemorate Filipino American History Month, and I'm asking for your help to honor the veterans in our community.

Get the details about all of this and more below, and make sure to follow my FacebookInstagram, and X to get these updates in real-time.

Standing Up for American Jobs

The European Union is stacking the deck against American paper products with a so-called "deforestation" regulation. This misguided and burdensome regulation will unfairly drive up costs for American families and results in the loss of jobs.

That's why I led a bipartisan letter with 66 of my colleagues to United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai expressing our deep concern with the European Union Deforestation-free Regulation, which went into effect on June 29, 2023. The new regulation places U.S. companies at a severe disadvantage by imposing burdensome and costly requirements on U.S. exporters that will unjustifiably limit market access for U.S. forest-derived products entering the EU.

The United States does not have a deforestation problem, and the Administration must act quickly to protect American jobs and industries.

Honoring Our Heroes

Image

Did you know that our District is home to more than 20,000 veterans? Those who have selflessly served our nation in uniform deserve our thanks and honor. As a member of Congress, one of my top priorities is ensuring that our veterans receive the respect, care, and benefits they have earned.

To commemorate Veterans Day, my office is accepting nominations from the public for Veterans of Distinction in the 45th Congressional District. Please visit my website to learn more about the awards and to nominate a veteran from our district who you would like to see recognized for their service.

Celebrating Filipino History

Image

California is home to nearly 2 million Filipinos, approximately 30,000 of which live in California’s 45th District according to U.S. Census Data. That why I led a bipartisan, bicameral resolution recognizing October 2023 as Filipino American History Month.

The Filipino Americans in Southern California have contributed so much to our communities. I am proud to introduce this resolution to honor the rich history, culture, and heritage of the Filipinos across this country, to commemorate their successes, and celebrate their commitment to the American Dream.

Californian families are among the hardest hit by this disaster. We need to unleash American energy.
