Dear Friend:

Last Thursday night, Congressman Jim Hagedorn from Minnesota's 1st District passed away after battling kidney cancer since 2019.

I served alongside Mr. Hagedorn on the Agricultural Committee. He had such a passion for serving the people of southern Minnesota and worked tirelessly for that privilege. He was always working to help farmers and small business owners, the lifeblood of rural Minnesota. Because of the overlap between our districts on these issues, we got to work together on many things like ethanol, broadband, and fixing meat processing bottlenecks so producers can get meat to their customers.

We have lost a kind, tireless, and passionate advocate for rural Minnesota and our way of life. It was an honor to serve with him. My thoughts are with Jim's family during this time and I will continue to pray for them.

Russia has Invaded Ukraine

This week, Russia invaded Ukraine. This is unjust and unacceptable, and I pray for and stand in solidarity with our friend and democratic ally, the people of Ukraine.

It is past time for the United States to reassert its leadership. America and the rest of the free world must stand together in the face of this aggression.

We are dealing with a culmination of this Administration’s failed economic policy, energy policy, and foreign policy. Joe Biden ran on his foreign policy experience, yet one year later our world is a much more dangerous place. Republicans were against lifting sanctions on Russia's Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which Joe Biden did just before he halted production on the American Keystone XL pipeline. So, not only did he appease Vladamir Putin, he actually forced America to be more dependent on his energy.

Legislation

Earlier this month, I co-sponsored three pieces of legislation:

  • H.R. 5089, the Next Generation Fuels Act, which will promote low-carbon, high-octane fuels, protect public health, and improve vehicle efficiency and performance. This bill recognizes the high-octane, low-carbon benefits of ethanol as a way to transition the U.S. to a cleaner burning fuel;
  • H.R. 921, Directing the Clerk of the House of Representatives to place a real time display of the United States total outstanding national debt in the House Chamber. The U.S. has reached a gravely unfortunate milestone. It surpassed $30 trillion in national debt. This has shown no sign of slowing down, as House Democrats and President Biden have tried to push through a $5 trillion partisan package after already spending $2 trillion of wish-list items under the guise of "COVID relief". I have continually urged my colleagues to consider the consequences of their spending habits on future generations; and
  • H.R. 6658, Making permanent certain provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act affecting individuals, families and small businesses. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act under President Trump included historic tax relief for families and small businesses across the country. However, House Democrats and president Biden threaten to let those cuts expire, leading to massive hikes starting in 2026. I was proud to join my colleagues in introducing legislation to make permanent these critical tax relief measures.

We are now accepting applications for our paid Summer internships in my D.C. and district offices. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience working in Congress on things that matter to the 7th District and to America.

iSSNRC Now Available in Minnesota

Internet Social Security Number Replacement Cards (iSSNRC) are now available for Minnesotans! U.S. citizens age 18 or older and who are residents of Minnesota can request a replacement SSN card online by creating a my Social Security account. They must have a U.S. domestic mailing address, not require a change to their record (such as a name change), and have a valid driver's license.

For more questions, and to submit a request, please visit the Social Security Administration website.

Thank you MN DNR for the drill core library tour. It is always great to be reminded of the mineral wealth we have right here in Minnesota!

We participated in a mining forum where we discussed a number of issues, including the Biden Administration's cancellation of leases for Twin Metals. Ending projects like this will take away jobs from American workers force us to rely on adversaries like China to source the minerals needed to build solar panels and other things this Administration claims to care about. Can't they see this is the last thing we should be doing right now?

During our visit, we made a stop at the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame to check out their exhibits and see the world's largest hockey stick (too big to be pictured in full above). It was great showing my colleagues some of what Minnesota has to offer.

To finish the tour, the Western Caucus participated in a forestry roundtable. The trucking and workforce shortage has hit this community as hard as anyone. That's why I am a co-sponsor for the Drive Safe Act, which will help put more truckers on the road by temporarily decreasing the age requirement to hire drivers.

Thanks for reading!

As always, my office is open and ready to serve constituents of Minnesota's Seventh Congressional District! Please do not hesitate to get in touch if there is anything I can do to help. Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,
