Dear Friend:

The past month has been tough for people across the state and the country. Gas prices have doubled, inflation has officially reached 8.6%, and we’re facing a baby formula shortage. Western Minnesota has been hit by devastating storms and tornadoes. And, the entire country’s heart broke as we learned about the evil act that took the lives of 19 children and 2 teachers in Uvalde, TX.

Gun Violence in America

The shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX and across the country have horrified the nation. We need to do more to protect our children in this country and stop sick, evil individuals from committing unspeakable acts of violence.

My colleagues on the left have instead chosen to turn this tragedy into a publicity stunt to push their aggressive anti-gun agenda. This week, we voted on a grab-bag of far-Left proposals that will not effectively address gun violence by criminals but will severely limit the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. In fact, they even rejected the inclusion of a bill I supported to increase funding for school resource officers

I stand ready to work with the Majority to directly address school safety, mental health, and the other root causes of gun violence.

Baby Formula Shortage

Parents all over the country are struggling to find formula due the ongoing supply chain crisis and mismanagement by the FDA. And yet, somehow the Democrats' solution this week was to give the FDA $28 million with no string attached. It's completely illogical and will do nothing to solve the problem.

You can view my full line of questioning with Congresswoman DeLauro here.

I care deeply about solving this crisis. Throwing money at the people who are actively failing in their duties is not the answer.

Instead, I cosponsored the Babies Need Formula Now Act, which would use every avenue possible to import safe formula from abroad and lift barriers that restrict new types and brands from entering the market. I also voted for the Access to Baby Formula Act, which would give the U.S. the ability to temporarily waive administrative requirements under the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

USDA Disaster Assistance Programs

Minnesota has been hit with extreme weather this year between flooding, storms, and tornados. Earlier this month, I went to Oslo, Crookston, Fisher, and East Grand Forks to see the impacts from flooding and discuss response efforts. I also went to Forada after a tornado ripped through their community, damaging or destroying 100 of the 170 homes. They have a long road ahead, but even among the devastation, you could see the strength of the community and how they’re coming together.

My office has been working with the government at every level to help all the communities hit by natural disasters this year. If we can help you, I encourage you to reach out. You may also be qualified for USDA benefits. You can find out on their website.

Democrats Pro-Abortion Agenda

As we await the Supreme Court's decision on Dobbs v. Jackson, the Democrats decided it was a good time to hold a hearing entitled "Revoking Your Rights: The Ongoing Crisis in Abortion Care Access"

Not only did this hearing show the true intention of the far Left: to allow for abortion on demand right up until birth, it was a clear attempt to pressure SCOTUS and influence their decision. That is not the role of Congress and my colleagues on the other side of the aisle should be ashamed of themselves.

I was glad to have the National Pork Producers Council come to my office to discuss a number of issues, including foreign animal disease preparedness and response.

I had the rare opportunity to meet with Romanian Senator Laura Iuliana Scantei. Of course, we talked about Russia's invasion of Ukraine & concerns Romanians have should Russia succeed. It's always alarming to hear from people watching this happen in their own backyard.

I met with the MN Society of Anesthesiologists during their annual fly-in. Thanks for coming by!

Second Harvest Heartland came to my office to meet with my staff and discuss a number of initiatives important to them. Last year, their organization distributed more than 113 lbs of food – 107 million meals!

The National Marine Manufacturers Association was in my office recently to talk about supply chain constraints, tariffs, recreational access and infrastructure, and the workforce.

As always, my office is open and ready to serve constituents of Minnesota's Seventh Congressional District! Please do not hesitate to get in touch if there is anything I can do to help. Thank you for reading!

Sincerely,
