Hello Friends,

I hope you are doing well and staying safe as we experience some dangerously cold weather this week — the coldest in years.

You can find shelters and warming stations across the state if you are in need of assistance. And, 2-1-1 is available to help you find support near you. Please know our team is also here to help – you can be in touch by calling 603-226-1002 or visiting Goodlander.House.Gov

Stay safe and please take good care.

Public Safety Depends on Public Trust

My heart is with Alex Pretti — a 37-year-old fellow American who served our country as a registered nurse in the intensive-care unit at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Minneapolis and was shot dead by masked federal agents — and with Renee Nicole Good — a 37-year-old fellow American who was shot dead by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. This senseless killing needs to stop. Now.

I hear from people across New Hampshire worried about the overreach of ICE and the chaos that Secretary Kristi Noem is sowing in our communities. And this past week, the House of Representatives voted on funding legislation for the Department of Homeland Security. I voted no, and I want to explain why.

ImageRead my full statement on this vote here.

Nothing matters more to me than keeping the people of New Hampshire safe, and I’m proud and grateful to be working alongside New Hampshire law enforcement partners who uphold the rule of law and put their lives on the line every day to do just that.

Public safety depends on public trust, and public trust depends on transparency, professionalism, and accountability in federal law enforcement. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security can and must enforce our laws and secure our borders to keep America safe while protecting our rights and freedoms. That is not happening with Secretary Kristi Noem at the helm.

Secretary Noem got a blank check of more than $150 billion from President Trump and Congressional Republicans in the so-called ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act.’ Those American taxpayer dollars are being deployed by ICE to thwart basic transparency and due process, upend mission-critical professional standards, endanger our fellow citizens, evade essential accountability, undermine our local leaders, sow chaos and fear in our communities, usurp congressional authority, impose unprecedented burdens on our federal courts, and, as a result, imperil the safety of our state and our nation.

ImageRead my full statement with my fellow Democratic veterans calling for an immediate stand down of ICE and CBP interior enforcement operations here.

That is why I fought in the House and am continuing to fight for commonsense guardrails designed to ensure ICE follows the law, operates transparently and professionally, and is accountable to the people it is entrusted with serving and protecting. These commonsense guardrails were rejected by Speaker Johnson and Congressional Republicans, and I could not vote in good faith to empower ICE to operate without the oversight, professionalism, or accountability that the American people need and deserve.

Immigrants make America and New Hampshire stronger, better, and, “forever young, forever bursting with energy and new ideas,” as President Ronald Reagan reminded us.

There is no ceremony more powerful than a naturalization ceremony. And this past week, at our federal courthouse in Concord, I was truly honored and deeply proud to be among the first to say thank you and welcome home to our newest fellow Americans.

My Focus Is On Lowering Your Costs

ImageWatch my remarks launching the Lowering Utility Bills Caucus here.

This week, we launched the Congressional Lowering Utility Bills Caucus — because for people across New Hampshire, high costs aren’t abstract, they’re crushing.

I see it sitting around kitchen tables across our state, talking with families about the bills that hurt the most — and nothing raises blood pressure quite like opening a New Hampshire utility bill.

I recently sat with a senior on a fixed income who served our state and our country his whole life. His utility bills have gone up by nearly 100 percent in just a few years. That story repeats itself across our state, and it’s hitting our local governments and small businesses just as hard.

This didn’t happen by accident. When I look at the system that’s producing these outrageous invoices, I see a rigged system — one dominated by monopolies, wrapped in secrecy, and designed to confuse instead of inform.

That’s why I’m fighting to bring transparency, oversight, and real accountability to the utility system in New Hampshire and across the country. We will be relentless. We will show up. And we will not stop until this system starts working for hardworking people again — and until we lower utility costs for the people of New Hampshire.

Fighting Back Against President Trump’s Lawless Tariffs Raising Your Costs

ImageRead more about how YOU are paying the price for President Trump’s tariffs from the Wall Street Journal here.

President Trump has slapped hardworking Americans with nearly $200 billion in new taxes with his unconstitutional, chaotic, and corrupt tariffs.

The last thing New Hampshire families and small businesses should have to deal with right now is another expensive and senseless invoice from the President.

I am fighting back in Congress and the courts because YOU deserve better.

Since the start of President Trump’s lawless trade wars, I’ve challenged his unlawful tariffs in court by filing legal briefs. The Supreme Court is actively considering the case.

ImageRead more about my legislation to exempt small businesses from tariffs on Canada here.

I am also championing multiple pieces of legislation to protect hardworking New Hampshire families, farmers, and small businesses from the chaos.

I will not give up in the fight to lower your costs and protect your pocketbook.

We Need to Get Dark Money Out of Politics

Before I got to Congress, I took on corporate monopolies as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice. I believe deep in my bones that no corporation is above the law.

ImageI’m proud to be one of the few Members of Congress who have never taken a penny of corporate PAC money and who never will. Watch my reflection on the anniversary of this case here.

This past week marked 16 years since the Supreme Court took a wrecking ball to our campaign finance system with one of the worst rulings in history: Citizens United.

One thing has become clear over the past decade and a half: It won’t fix itself.

That’s why I’m fighting for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United, ban corporate PACs, and restore commonsense safeguards so that Granite Staters — not big corporations and special interests — decide our elections.

Read more about my work to overturn Citizens United here.

Putting Our National Security First, Ending Forever Wars

Let’s be clear: President Trump’s reckless threats against America’s most important allies — our NATO allies — are making our country less safe. They are an absolute gift to thugs like Vladimir Putin.

That’s why I’m leading a bipartisan bill to prevent American taxpayer dollars from being used to attack our NATO allies.

Read more about our bipartisan legislation, the No Funds for NATO Invasion Act, here. And watch my explanation of this bill here.

ImageWatch my remarks from a press conference focused on reclaiming congressional authority over matters of war and peace here.

It’s also why I am proud to be championing multiple, bipartisan war powers resolutions in Congress to reclaim congressional authority over actions in Venezuela. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I will never give up the ship.

Delivering for New Hampshire’s Small Businesses

ImageWatch my explanation of these bills and my work fighting for New Hampshire's small businesses here.

This past week was a good one for New Hampshire small businesses, which make up 98% of all businesses in New Hampshire.

The House of Representatives passed a slate of commonsense, bipartisan bills to lower costs, cut senseless red tape, and equip hardworking Americans with the tools they need and deserve to meet the challenges and opportunities of the AI revolution.

  • The Main Street Parity Act will lower barriers for small business owners to access capital, making it easier for our small businesses to succeed.

  • The 504 Program Risk Oversight Act will increase transparency and efficiency within the SBA's loan program to deliver for our entrepreneurs.

  • The AI-WISE Act will help small businesses effectively adopt AI and be a part of the digital innovation economy.

  • The AI for Main Street Act will help small businesses evaluate and adopt artificial intelligence (AI) to participate in the 21st-century economy.

I am proud to be leading these efforts on the House Small Business Committee, and I will never give up the fight to lower your costs.

Video of the Week

ImageWatch my remarks at the Community Church of New Boston on Martin Luther King Day here.

It was powerful to join in community with fellow Granite Staters around that message at the Community Church of New Boston and to honor together the extraordinary life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. King asked us to make a career of humanity, and he showed us that doing so requires empathy. It requires understanding. Above all, it requires love.

ImageIt’s the honor of my life to deliver for New Hampshire’s first responders in Congress.

Great visit with Chief Dubreuil at the New Boston Fire Department’s brand new station last week. Proud to see federal funding delivering real results for our brave firefighters who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe.

This beautiful station reflects years of leadership and persistence from New Boston’s own former Chief Dan MacDonald — the face, voice, heart, and soul of the New Boston Fire Department for nearly a quarter of a century.

How We Can Help

There’s a lot changing with Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security. It can be a lot to deal with, but our team is here to help.

Earlier this year, Mr. K of Grafton County ran into trouble during his Medicaid redetermination – the process of confirming eligibility. He was asked to submit certain bank statements, but was unable to obtain them before the deadline. When the deadline passed, he received notice that he would be automatically unenrolled from Medicaid.

That’s when he reached out to our office for help.

Our team contacted the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on his behalf, and as a result, CMS agreed to reinstate his Medicaid coverage with no gap and renew his eligibility through 2026.

We are here to help however we can – be in touch by calling 603-226-1002 or visiting Goodlander.House.Gov.
