This week Congress welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for a joint address. I've been working to encourage the critical trilateral relationship between the U.S., Korea, and Japan, and this visit was an important step in the right direction.
The Congressional Artificial Intelligence Task Force is officially underway, and I'm eager to get to work on this critical issue.
I had the pleasure of welcoming some exceptional students from our district to Washington, D.C., and my office is launching an opportunity to recognize outstanding neighbors and friends in our community.

Protecting Our Security, Fostering Innovation |

By now, you're familiar with the recent developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI is a truly groundbreaking technology, with the potential to revolutionize our economy. It also presents a potential threat in terms of Americans' data privacy and intellectual property rights, especially with adversaries like the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) exploiting emerging technologies to undermine our national security.
I have been appointed to the recently-formed, bipartisan Congressional Task Force on AI, which will be responsible for crafting recommendations on how government should respond to this technological development. As the Task Force gets underway with our work, I'm committed to protecting our national security and American data privacy while fostering innovation and economic development. |

I had a productive meeting with President Sylvia Alva and representatives from Cal State, Fullerton to discuss our successful efforts to secure $5 million to improve the Titan Gateway Bridge on campus and future opportunities to partner on improving higher education in our community. Go Titans!

Many thanks to the CRU Institute in Garden Grove for showing me around. The team there provides training & experience to aspiring barbers in OC. I got to try my hand at hair styling, but we agreed I’ll leave the hair to them, while I focus on expanding education and employment opportunities in Congress!

At 102, Richard “Dick” Higgins was the last living member of the Orange County’s Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. He recently passed away, and I was honored to recognize his service and sacrifice on the Floor of the House of Representatives.

Nominate an AAPI of Distinction |

From business leaders and educators to healthcare professionals and community service providers, the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community in Southern California is as remarkable and impactful as it is diverse. We are fortunate to have such dedicated and talented friends and neighbors in our area.

Supporting STEM Education |
|
|
STEM and computer-based skills are the foundation of many high-paying, high-demand jobs, but the United States has been falling behind in STEM education for too long. Congress established the Congressional App Challenge to recognize the importance of developing STEM and computer-based skills to grow our economy and maintain our competitiveness by investing in our youth to help them acquire these valuable skills. The Challenge achieves this goal by welcoming students from across the country to compete against one another to develop an app that showcases their coding skills.
The winners of the 2023 Congressional App Challenge are Gavin-kai Vida, Christopher Vu and Angad Batra of Gretchen Whitney High School in Cerritos. Their app, "Eco Tracker," enables users to track their carbon footprint, compare it to that of others, and find ways to reduce it.
I was so glad to welcome Gavin-kai, Christopher, and Angad to Washington, D.C. this week, as they showcased their app alongside the other winning apps from across the country. These three have bright futures, and our community can be very proud of them. |
