District Update |February 14, 2021

Dear Friend,

Thank you to everyone who participated in last week's telephone town hall event! I am thankful Dr. Sunenshine from Maricopa County Public Health was able to join us, to help answer questions and ease some frustrations many of you were facing with the COVID-19 vaccine registration process.

If you were unable to participate in this event, and would like to listen to the recording, please visit this page to do so. As always, my office is here to assist with any additional resources you may need. Please read below for recent updates in Arizona and Washington, DC.

Happy Birthday, Arizona!

Happy Birthday, Arizona! Today, we celebrate the anniversary of Arizona officially becoming a state. I wanted to share the Library of Congress 'Arizona Collection' with you to view history, state maps, and other artifacts to learn more about Arizona!

Vaccine Resources

Tomorrow, Maricopa County will be opening COVID-19 vaccine registration for individuals 65+. To register for an appointment, click here.

When creating your account, be sure to write down your username and password to access the online portal at a later time. It is highly recommended that you continue to check the sign-up page for future appointment availability on a daily basis. For additional concerns you may have on this registration process, visit the AZDHS's website for answers to frequently asked questions.

Please also be aware of the COVID-19 Helpline. For all COVID-19 and vaccine related questions, call 844-542-8201 anytime Monday-Friday between 8am and 5pm to speak with a local health official. You may expect wait times, however this is a great resource for those with medical concerns or other health related questions on vaccinations.

Fighting Unemployment Fraud

Image

This week, I discussed the importance of addressing unemployment fraud during the Ways and Means Committee meeting on the next COVID-19 relief package. Congress must prioritize addressing the rampant fraud and abuse within our unemployment systems to ensure benefits are reaching those who need it most. I have seen first-hand the multitude of fraudulent unemployment claims that have been requested throughout our own community. To watch my remarks, click here

We must also prioritize helping Americans safely return to work by implementing responsible proposals introduced by my colleagues and I on the Ways and Means Committee. Recently, my colleagues and I sent a letter asking the Biden Administration how many jobs the $1.9 trillion relief package will create for the American people, as it is imperative that we focus on creating jobs, getting people back to work, and reviving our economy. Click here to read the letter.

REAL ID Reminder

Are you planning on traveling later this year? Be sure to register for an Arizona Real ID before October 1, 2021. This deadline was extended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and will be a new travel requirement for all Arizonans in order to travel domestically through TSA after October 2021.

To read more on the Arizona Real ID, click here to be directed to the AZDOT website. To learn more about the Real ID requirements, visit the Homeland Security website here

Thank you for taking the time to read my newsletter. If my office can be of any additional assistance, please feel free to reach out to us

Sincerely,
David Schweikert
