News from Representative Carson

October 2, 2020

Dear Friend,

Last night, I was honored to preside over the House of Representatives as we passed an updated version of the Heroes Act. This is a strong piece of legislation that strengthens our fight against COVID-19 in Indiana and across America. Here are just a few of the many important provisions in our bill:

-Extends the extra $600 in unemployment insurance until 2021

-Provides $75 billion for contact tracing, testing and treatment

-Provides $436 billion to help our frontline workers

-Sends another round of economic impact payments of $1,200 per taxpayer and $500 per dependent

-Increases SNAP benefits by 15%

This bill is not perfect, but it’s an important and necessary step in the right direction to help us get through this pandemic. Although this compromise bill contains provisions that I did not recommend regarding pensions, please know that I will keep working to strengthen pension plans so that Hoosiers can continue to rely on them for years to come.

I urge the Senate to pass this bill immediately so we can get Americans the help the need and deserve.

COVID-19 is still a huge danger to our country. The President and First Lady’s positive diagnosis for COVID-19 shows that we are all at risk of contracting this deadly virus and that we need to take this disease very seriously. I am praying for them, and everyone battling this virus, and I hope they make a full recovery. We need to ensure every American has the tools they need to stay safe. We all have a responsibility to help combat this pandemic. That includes listening to our public health officials, wearing masks, practicing social distancing, and frequently washing our hands.
