News from Representative Carson

March 5, 2021

Dear Friend,

In case you haven’t heard, I want to inform you about some of the latest bills the House has passed, which will make a real difference in Hoosiers’ lives.
Last week, the House passed the $1.9 trillion-dollar American Rescue Plan Act. This is a bold effort to help crush COVID-19, protect our economy, keep kids safer in schools, put much-needed stimulus payments in Americans’ pockets, and more. This week, the Senate has advanced the bill, and I’m confident it will become law soon.
We also passed two more landmark bills this week in the House. On Wednesday, we passed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, a comprehensive bill that works to end police brutality. It does this by helping to hold police accountable for wrongdoing and gives police better tools to work with the communities they serve. I was honored to preside over the House during the vote.
The same day, we passed H.R 1, the For The People Act, another bold piece of legislation. This bill helps restore political power back to the people and away from the special interests. It also ends partisan gerrymandering and cracks down on voter suppression tactics, which have disenfranchised countless Americans. I urge the Senate to swiftly vote on these two bills as well.
I’m also excited to announce that I will be holding my Youth Opportunities Fair on Wednesday, April 14th from 4-7pm. This event connects young people and their caregivers in our community with a large variety of jobs, volunteer opportunities, and enrichment activities. In previous years, we gathered at the Indianapolis Public Library. This year, we will be holding the event virtually, so folks can participate safely and conveniently. Stay connected for more details.
