I hope you and your family are staying healthy and well. Today, we honor our brave veterans who served in Vietnam. 

I had the opportunity to attend a Vietnam Veterans Day Ceremony at American Legion Post #58 in Fountain Hills, where we recognized 26 veterans for their service in Vietnam. We cannot thank our veterans enough for what they have sacrificed for our country.

Telephone Town Hall this Wednesday!

This Wednesday, March 31st at 5:00pm local Arizona time, I will be hosting a telephone town hall event. 

During the call, I will be available to discuss the work we are doing for Arizonans, and answer a variety of questions from you. I would also like to take time to provide an update on the crisis at our southern border, and discuss our economy, the data we are currently seeing, and what we must be doing to ensure we can return to pre-pandemic levels.

Phoenix Municipal Vaccine Site Visit

Last week, I had the opportunity to tour the Phoenix Municipal Stadium state vaccine site. It was an eye-opening experience to see how many wonderful Arizonans were out volunteering their time to help others in their community. I was very pleased at how smoothly operations ran, and how organized of a process the vaccine distribution has been at this location. Thank you to the volunteers, DEMA, and the Arizona National Guard for all you are doing to help our community. 

The Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS) recently opened COVID-19 vaccine appointments to Arizonans 16 years and up. Each Friday, AZDHS will be releasing new appointments for the following week at 11:00am. Please remember to register online for an appointment here, and to continue monitoring the hotline for appointments at 1-844-542-8201. 

Exit Tax Prevention Act 

I introduced the Exit Tax Prevention Act of 2021, legislation that would prevent the unconstitutional taxing of Americans who relocate from their state to a new permanent residence. This legislation comes in response to a proposal in the California State Legislature that would use a wealth tax to continue to tax residents who leave the state.

I believe that no American should be subjected to a tax penalty for their decision to move, whether that be a financial, family, lifestyle, or other choice. This proposal from California is unconstitutional, and unfairly targets Americans trying to relocate to a state better suited for their goals and needs.

I am proud to introduce this legislation and remain committed to protecting taxpayers from unconstitutional tax penalties. To read more about this legislation, click here. 

Reporting Unemployment Fraud

Unemployment fraud is running rampant in our communities. The U.S. Department of Labor has launched a new website for individuals to understand unemployment insurance identity theft, and how and where to report stolen benefits if they are victims.

Too many individuals have become victims of fraud due to the COVID-19 pandemic. If you receive a 1099-G tax form this filing season for benefits you did not apply for in 2020, you are likely a victim of fraud. You should report suspected fraud to the Arizona Department of Economic Security as soon as possible.
