Dear Friend,

I hope that you and your family are doing well. I wanted to share with you my recent work in Washington, D.C.

Floor Speech Discussing Government Spending and Infrastructure

Image

Last week, I discussed the importance of helping individuals return to the workforce, the rise in prices of goods and services we are seeing, and the Democrats' infrastructure proposal during my floor speech.

My Democratic colleagues have proposed a $2.5 trillion “infrastructure” bill which only directs a small portion of funding for roads and bridges, while proposing trillions of dollars in other unrelated spending. I believe any future infrastructure proposal must include future investments, particularly in innovative technologies that will promote a productive and efficient society. Unfortunately, much of the current proposal will result in increased taxes, and has spending for items unrelated to our country's core infrastructure needs.

There is room for bipartisan work on an infrastructure plan. I will continue to advocate for a strong, bipartisan proposal that focuses on our country's infrastructure needs, while keeping the tax cuts passed in 2017 in place.

Expanding Access to Investment for Entrepreneurs

Image

Last week, I introduced H.R. 3328, the Fair Investment Opportunities for Professional Experts Act, legislation that expands the definition of an accredited investor, allowing Americans who have relevant education, professional experience, or other similar credentials to invest in private offerings.

This legislation would expand the definition of an accredited investor to include professional experts, providing more Americans with the opportunity to invest in ideas based on their knowledge and capabilities, without being penalized for their current income levels. I am proud to be re-introducing this important legislation to ensure any Americans who are looking to grow and create new investments in our communities are able to do so.

Letter Addressing Increased Lumber Costs

Image

I recently joined my colleagues in a bipartisan letter to U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Tai to address the increased price of lumber. In the letter we discussed the need for the United States to resolve lumber trade issues with Canada to help decrease the rising cost.

The increased price of lumber has impacted millions of Americans and businesses building in our communities. I will continue working with my colleagues to address this issue, along with the rising cost of other goods and services.

Supporting our Friend and Ally, Israel

In this last week, we saw tensions rise in the Middle East against our friend and ally, Israel. I wanted to take the time to express my deep concerns for the innocent Israeli civilians who were being targeted by Hamas extremists.

I spoke out in support of Israel during my Floor Speech, and called for my colleagues in Congress to share the same support for Israel amongst these horrific events. Our relationship with Israel should never be a partisan issue. There is no justification for terrorism against a fellow democracy, or anywhere in the world.

I appreciate you taking time to read my weekly e-newsletter. If there are any additional services our office can provide you, please feel welcome to contact us.

Sincerely,

David Schweikert
