District Update |August 9, 2021

Dear Friend,

I hope you and your family are staying well through this August heat. I wanted to share this newsletter with you on recent news and some updates.

We Must Secure Our Border

Image

As we see apprehensions at our southern border increase, and COVID-19 positive migrants come to the United States in overwhelming numbers, the Biden Administration is continuing to ignore the crisis that is impacting the health and safety of our communities. The Democrats duplicity in allowing migrants to illegally come across our border, increasing our COVID-19 infection rate, and disrupting the safety of our communities cannot go unchecked.

This Administration continues to break the law by ignoring Title 42 restrictions, and has allowed COVID-19 positive migrants to be sent all across the country. It is imperative that we enforce restrictions at the border to deter illegal immigration, and re-instate the policies created by the Trump Administration to secure the border. I will continue to advocate for strong border security measures that will protect our communities.

Promoting Strong Trade Agreements

Image

I recently joined my colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee in sending a letter to President Biden to renew Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) agreements put forth by Congress to support American jobs and increase market access for manufacturers, service providers, and more. As we see American innovation be unleashed, it is imperative we are working to promote and sell American products overseas.

Arizona knows the importance of strong trade agreements, particularly with our neighbor Mexico. I am continuing to work towards developing free and fair trade agreements with our allies to support our economy and sell American-made products.

Honoring the Fallen

Image

This past Saturday, we honored our fallen soldiers on National Purple Heart Day. Each year, we honor Americans who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to defend our freedoms on the front lines.  We are forever grateful and indebted to our veterans for their service to our country.

If you are a veteran in need of assistance with the VA, or looking for other resources available to you, please don't hesitate to contact my office. We are forever grateful for your courage and heroism.

Special Enrollment Period Closing

I wanted to share a reminder that the enrollment period for the Healthcare.gov marketplace special enrollment coverage will be closing on August 15th. This special enrollment period is different then Open Enrollment season, which is right around the corner.

Current Marketplace enrollees can review their application during this time to make any needed changes to their current information, submit their application, and reselect their current plan. If you have any questions about this special enrollment period, please don't hesitate to contact my office.

Passport Reminder!

I want to remind you of the ongoing backlog the U.S. Department of State is experiencing with passport processing. If you are planning to travel internationally this fall, it is important to check the expiration date on your passport now before booking any travel.

The Department is experiencing continued delays for routine renewals and new passports that can take 18 weeks to be processed.  Don’t wait - learn more from the State Department here

I appreciate you taking the time to read my weekly e-newsletter. If my office can ever be helpful for you, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Sincerely,

David Schweikert
