 Trouble in Progressive Paradise

Dear Friend,

After a busy few weeks in Washington pushing back against Democrats' radical tax-and-spend agenda, I am glad to be back with my friends and fellow West Texans. To ensure you are receiving the latest updates from me, I encourage you to visit my website, and follow me on TwitterInstagram, and Facebook

As James Madison said, "a public debt is a public curse, and in a Republican government, a greater curse than any other." Despite Democrats' rhetoric, it's not Republicans' job to raise the debt ceiling and pave the way for their socialist spending programs. I took to the House floor to urge my colleagues to reconsider all of this spending that's bankrupting our country. Watch these remarks here and below.

West Texans and Americans across the country are deeply concerned about the threat of increased reporting requirements and an overreaching IRS. I joined Varney & Co. on Fox Business to discuss these dangerous IRS provisions that Democrats' have refused to commit to keeping out of the tax-and-spend package moving forward. Watch my full interview here and below.

Short-term, stop-gap government funding bills are a symptom of the deeper dysfunction in our budget and appropriations process. The worst part? It costs our taxpayers more money to run our government this way. I joined Yahoo! Finance to discuss this process and how the Federal Reserve's liberal monetary policies have exacerbated the inflation we're seeing. Watch this full discussion here and below.

Our Wylie All-Stars competed in the Little League World Series in true West Texas fashion. I was proud to head to the House floor to recognize our Wylie Little League All-Stars for their tremendous performance and outstanding representation for not only our district, but the entire Lone Star State. Watch my floor speech commending their efforts here and below.

Veterans deserve a hero’s burial, and we should honor those who were willing to sacrifice everything for our great nation. Last week, the Department of Veterans Affairs awarded a grant to the State of Texas’ Veterans Land Board to fund the expansion of the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene. This grant will fund additional burial sites and other improvements for the more than 25,000 Veterans and their families who call the Big Country home. I am grateful to the Department of Veterans Affairs and the taxpayers for their support of this important venture.

You also might have missed that last week, the Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program Plus (WHIP+) program was signed into law following its inclusion in the stop-gap funding bill. Even though my Democrat colleagues can’t pass a budget, complete an appropriations package, or pass a real infrastructure bill, I’m glad we were able to get agriculture disaster relief for 2020 and 2021 into the government funding legislation.

As always, it is an honor and privilege to represent you in Congress. Feel free to forward this newsletter to our fellow West Texans and encourage them to sign up here for this weekly update.

Your friend and fellow West Texan,

Sincerely,
Jodey C. Arrington
Member of Congress
