News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends,

This week, our nation’s Capitol experienced the outcome of years of lies and conspiracies at the hands of President Trump. This was an attack on not only the hallowed halls of the Capitol, but on the very heart and soul of our democracy: a peaceful transition of power. He incited a insurrection, and a mob of extremists breached the Capitol as the House and Senate worked to certify the 2020 election results. Sadly, five people lost their lives, one a United States Capitol police officer. I have called for there to be a thorough investigation to find those who participated in this incursion and ravaged the Capitol building. They must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

In spite of this deplorable mob, Congress completed its job at 4am Thursday morning and certified the results of our free and fair election. Through it all, some of my staff and I were under lockdown and continued to work. You can watch my interview with WSFB here and my interview with CT News Junkie here.

It is no secret this attempted coup was created by President Trump, and his enablers in Congress, to stop the vote count and prevent a peaceful transfer of power. The President will continue to pose a danger to the country if he continues to serve and should be removed from office. My colleagues and I encourage Vice President Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove the President from his final days in power.

It is time our country moves towards healing. I look forward to working with the incoming Biden-Harris Administration to advance initiatives that will improve the lives of the American people- such as protecting and expanding Social Security and continuing the fight against COVID-19. There is so much work to be done, and I welcome your thoughts as we move forward.

Regards,
