News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends,

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect communities and take lives here in Connecticut and across the country. This virus has had devastating impacts on our small businesses, put enormous strain on our hospital systems, and has caused economic hardship for so many American families  The health of our nation and the health of our economy are inextricably linked and we need to get Americans more relief to help them through this crisis.

Late last year Congress passed a bipartisan COVID relief package that served as a down payment and a bridge to more relief. This package made significant investments in testing and tracing efforts, vaccines and therapeutics, medical supplies, and funding for underserved communities.

This package also included:

  • $600 stimulus checks to  Americans
  • Extension of federal unemployment benefits along with an additional $300/week in benefits
  • $25 billion in rental and utility assistance programs
  • $13 billion in food assistance programs
  • $284 for the Paycheck Protection Program to support small businesses
  • $10 billion in assistance for child care and child care providers

But this package was only a first step in working to address this crisis.  I’m fighting for another comprehensive package that will get this virus under control, provide direct relief to Americans, and put our nation on a path towards recovery.

I’m fighting for the next relief package to include:

  • More stimulus checks to  Americans
  • Extended unemployment benefits
  • The nationalization of the production and distribution of essential supplies (including vaccines) to combat this pandemic (See more about my proposal with Rep. Joe Courtney here
  • Additional relief for restaurants
  • An increase in food benefits
  • Additional housing assistance, including an extension on evictions and foreclosures moratoriums
  • More support for small businesses
  • Support for state and local governments

I’ve heard from countless small businesses and constituents across the First District on the urgent need for additional relief. I will continue to fight for another relief package that will help keep our communities healthy, safe, and working.

Best,
