District Update April 11, 2022

Dear ,

I hope you had a great weekend. Last week was eventful in both Washington, D.C. and back home in the 6th district. Below, please find an update of my most recent work in Congress.

The Democrats' Reckless Spending Spree Is Driving Inflation

Image

Last week, I spoke on the House floor about the national inflation rate that is currently slamming the country, but most notably the residents of Arizona's 6th district--who are being hit the hardest with a rate of 10.9%. It is important that to understand this is not a result of the war in Ukraine or the pandemic, rather, this is the result of reckless spending policies and proposals continuously inflicted by the left.

A number of economists have done the math on inflation, and they have revealed that this is not going to be transitory if we continue to spend at the current rate. The numbers are showing that it could endure over the next decade, which will destroy working families' ability to save. To watch my full speech, click here.

Increase In Cases of Valley Fever

Image

A recent report has found that cases of Valley Fever in the Western region of the U.S. have been increasing. As the Co-Chair of The Valley Fever Task Force, it is a priority of mine to spread awareness around this disease that disproportionately affects Arizonans.

The symptoms of Valley Fever can often be mistaken for other conditions, making it hard to detect. Valley Fever is serious, and it is so important that people are aware of this disease so that we may be able to make strides towards beating it once and for all.

Just One Week Until The Tax Filing Deadline

Image

I wanted to remind you of the tax filing deadline that is quickly approaching on April 18th, 2022. Currently, there are no plans to extend the filing deadline. Below is further guidance taken directly from the IRS website that I would like to share with you:

  • Tax filers are encouraged to file their taxes both electronically and as soon as possible, as individuals are still experiencing delays on last year's paper tax returns due to IRS's limited staffing amid the pandemic.
  • People who received advance Child Tax Credit payments in 2021 need to ensure the amounts they've received are entered correctly on the 2021 tax return.
  • All third-round Economic Impact Payments have been issued. People may claim any remaining stimulus payment they're entitled to on their 2021 tax return as part of the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit.
  • For more information on the above, please see here.

The 2022 Service Academy Fair is Less Than A Month Away

Image

Students who are interested in pursuing an application for a Military Service Academy are encouraged to attend the Service Academy Fair on May 7th, 2022, hosted by myself and other members of Arizona's Congressional delegation.

This is a fantastic opportunity for those interested in attending a Service Academy to learn more and ask questions about the application process. For more information on the 2022 Service Academy Fair, please see here. I hope to see you there!

Thank you for taking the time out of your evening to get up to date on my recent work. I encourage you to please contact my office with any questions, comments, or concerns.

Sincerely,

David Schweikert
