News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends,

Throughout my career, I have been an ardent supporter of paid family and medical leave for employees. I authored the nation’s first Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) while serving in the Connecticut Senate, which became the basis for the national FMLA program giving employees the right to take this leave. I am proud that Connecticut continues to lead on family leave. The state’s paid family and medical leave program will be fully implemented next year, and Representative Rosa DeLauro has introduced legislation to create a similar program nationwide. I am proud to be a cosponsor of that bill, the FAMILY Act.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the desperate need for families to have resources and options regarding paid leave to care for themselves or their families. In the past year, nearly 3 million women have left the workforce, many facing the choice between their jobs and caring for their families. No one should have to make this choice in our country.

On Wednesday I’m participating in a Ways and Means Committee hearing on paid family and medical leave. During the hearing, I will have the opportunity to share some of the stories from Connecticut’s First District and want to hear from you. To share your story on how Paid Family and Medical Leave would help you, please click here.

I look forward to hearing from you. To follow what I’m working on both in Washington and in Connecticut, visit my Facebook pagefollow me on Twitter, or follow me on Instagram
