Dear Friend,
It has been a busy few days in Washington as we prepare for the holidays.
But one thing is certain, we CANNOT leave until we get a deal on COVID relief. We cannot wait any longer.
I’ll continue pushing leaders on both sides of the aisle to get this done.
Today, I wanted to share some exciting news about my bill to reform our criminal justice system, and provide you with an update on the COVID-19 pandemic in our community.
SUPPORTING INCARCERATED INDIVIDUALS
We’re dealing with a mental health crisis in our country only made worse by COVID-19. Sadly, incarcerated individuals are bearing the brunt of it due to a lack of social distancing and safety measures.
Every American deserves access to high-quality mental health care, no matter what.
I’m proud to announce that this week, my bill to support mental health care for incarcerated populations unanimously passed the House and now heads to the President’s desk for signature.
The bipartisan Crisis Stabilization and Community Reentry Act will help provide mental health treatment and crisis stabilization for incarcerated individuals, ensuring that they have the care they need to safely transition back into society.
Fixing our broken criminal justice system is just common sense. I was proud to work with my colleagues across the aisle on this bill and will continue fighting for a justice system that works for everyone.
