News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends –

Starting July 15th, families started to receive their monthly Child Tax Credit advance payment that was created in the American Rescue Plan signed into law March 2021. The expansion of the Child Tax Credit in the American Rescue Plan is one of the most consequential policies I’ve ever voted for. I was proud to help lead the effort to include it in the Plan through my work on the Ways and Means Committee.

For tax year 2021, eligible families will receive up to $3,000 per qualifying child between the ages of 6 and 17 and up to $3,600 per child under 6. Payments began last week and will continue monthly through the end of this year.  The hard-working parents in our community can use this money on things like putting food on the table, gas in their cars, and child care services.

This historic expansion is expected to cut child poverty in half, according to the Tax Policy Center, and will help 77% of children in Connecticut's First District, according to Co-Equal. It is the largest tax cut for middle class families in generations. Connecticut’s own, Representative Rosa DeLauro, fought long and hard for this provision. We will continue to fight to make it permanent.

Qualified families who filed taxes in 2019 or 2020, will get these payments automatically. If you did not file taxes, you can register for your payment here.
