Dear Friends –  

January 6, 2021 will forever be a dark stain on our democracy. In May, I voted for a bill that would have created a national commission to investigate the attacks but it was blocked by conservatives in the Senate. Later, in June, I proudly voted to create a Select Committee in the House of Representatives to investigate the horrifying attack on our nation’s Capitol.  

That day left countless Capitol Police officers injured, traumatized, and some have since passed away. This past week, we heard from officers who survived January 6th, and their testimony is heartbreaking. I was disturbed to hear some of my colleagues describe this as a “normal tourist visit,” when it was very clear it was a violent insurrection.  

I fully support  the efforts to gather as much information as possible about what happened on January 6th. That day was not only an attack on our Capitol but also our democracy. We must seek out the truth to ensure nothing like this ever happens again.
