Dear Friend,

As a former small business owner, I know how important small businesses are to our local economy’s success. In March, I voted for the CARES Act, which provided over $3 billion to our Commonwealth to assist with COVID-19 relief efforts. I am glad the City of Poquoson used some of these funds to establish a COVID-19 Business Recovery Grant program to help small businesses impacted by the coronavirus.

These funds may be used to cover expenses such as technology to transfer to online sales, purchase of PPE and cleaning supplies, special signage, and more. The grants can provide up to $2,000 in relief and are issued on a first-come, first-served basis.

To be considered for a grant, businesses must meet the following requirements:

  • For-profit businesses must have been impacted or interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic from the period of March 13 through November 30, 2020.
  • Must have a current City of Poquoson Business License and be in good standing with all past and current local taxes and licenses.
  • Have fewer than 25 employees as of January 1, 2020.
  • Be a Poquoson-based business.
  • Must not have more than 2 locations nationwide.
  • Must verify that they intend to continue operations in Poquoson when government orders are lifted.
