The U.S. Government Has a Spending Problem

Last week, I gave a speech on the House Floor outlining the consequences the federal government's spending problem will have on our children and grandchildren unless we tell the truth about the math, and the math will always win.

Current Congressional Budget Office models show that we're heading toward a structural cost of $1 trillion per year just on interest in the next ten years. When spending is factored in, our structural deficit increases to $2 trillion per year.

This is not a Republican or Democrat issue. Getting federal spending under control and passing fiscally responsible federal budgets are things we all should care about. If we do not get federal spending under control, it will be our children and grandchildren who ultimately pay the price. None of us want future generations to pay for the fiscal mistakes of previous generations.

Speaking at the Women in Retirement Conference

Image

I enjoyed speaking at the Women in Retirement Conference in Litchfield Park to help women remain successful even after leaving the workforce. These women have worked hard to achieve their goals, and I talked about how my Retirement Protection Act can help them fight historic inflation by raising the yearly contribution limit for their savings accounts.

Ensuring you and your family are able to meet your retirement goals in the midst of the inflation we are facing is a top priority of mine. It's why I sponsored this legislation, and it's why I will continue to fight for policies that make preparing for retirement easier.
