Dear ,

I hope you and your family are doing well! I wanted to provide a few updates on my work this past week for the residents of Arizona’s First Congressional District.

It’s Time to Have an Honest Discussion About the Fiscal Crisis

Last week, I joined Fox Business Network’s Varney & Co. to discuss how the Biden Administration is attempting to divert attention away from the nation’s fiscal crisis that it helped create. The White House is refusing to work with House Republicans to address the shortfalls in Medicare and Social Security, and we must come together to produce long-term solutions that will spare the American people from the fiscal cliff that is crashing toward us.

Kicking Off Tax Filing Season

Image

Today, Jan. 23, 2023, is the first day you can officially file your 2022 taxes. According to the IRS, more than 168 million individual tax returns are expected to be filed in 2023. Don’t delay – this year, Tax Day falls on April 18, meaning you have 86 days to file last year’s tax returns.

The Internal Revenue Service recommends filing returns electronically with direct deposit for faster delivery of refunds and avoid delays.

What I’m Reading & Why it Matters

Image

I recently read this Fox Business Network article regarding an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office that found that Social Security’s major trust funds could run out of revenue by 2033. Specifically, the report showed that if the projected gap between the outlays from the trust funds and the revenue they receive transpires as predicted, the balance of the trust funds would hit zero and the Social Security Administration would be unable to distribute full retirement benefits to recipients. Congress must get serious about fixing the Social Security trust funds to ensure the long-term stability of the program. I talk extensively on the House Floor regarding Social Security issues. You can watch one of my most recent floor speeches HERE.

I am greatly appreciative of the time you take out of your day to read my newsletter as well as provide thorough feedback. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact my office.

Sincerely,
