The COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenging time for our Coastal Virginia community and our nation. My team and I have been working to inform you of local, state, and federal resources available to assist you.

The City of Virginia Beach is now accepting applications for the Real Estate and Personal Property Tax Relief Program is through the end of January 2021. The Virginia Beach Department of Human Services administers this program to provide financial relief to individuals who lost their job, had their work hours reduced, or have been furloughed due to COVID-19.

Eligible households may receive up to $500 in residential real estate tax relief and $250 for personal property tax relief. Any household can apply for this assistance if they meet its eligibility requirements, regardless of whether they paid their tax bill.

To be eligible for this support, you must:

  • Provide proof of eligibility criteria;
  • Have established Virginia Beach residency as of March 1, 2020;
  • Be unemployed at any time after March 1, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic; and
  • Provide a copy of your 2020 real estate and/or personal property tax bills.
