I hope you and your family are doing well! I wanted to provide a few updates on my work this past week for the residents of Arizona’s First Congressional District.
Meeting With Our District's Military Service Academy Appointees

On Friday, I had the distinct pleasure of meeting with some of our local students in Arizona's First Congressional District who received appointments to attend our nation's premier military service academies. I appreciate all their hard work and interest in serving our great country, and I wish them the best of luck!

Honoring Our Nation's Fallen Heroes
On Memorial Day, I attended a ceremony hosted by the City of Scottsdale and American Legion Post 44 where we were joined by local veterans organizations to honor those who lost their lives in military service.
Arizona is home to one of the largest populations of veterans in the country. In fact, Post 44 serves 700 veterans and has about 1,000 members, including Legion, Auxiliary, and Sons of the Legion. If you are a veteran or know a veteran in need of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact my District Office at (480) 946-2411 for help with federal benefits.
We are forever thankful for their service and honor their valor. May God bless our troops!
Beginning the Process of Solving Washington's Unsustainable Spending Problems
Last week, Congress took action to increase the debt ceiling to avoid economic calamity that will only hurt the American public. I reluctantly voted for this legislation because we cannot default on the sovereign debt of the United States.
While there are some accomplishments in this bill, including House Republicans passing the largest deficit reduction in American history, there is still much more work to be done to restore our nation's fiscal health. This admittedly imperfect legislation begins the process of solving Washington's unsustainable spending problems.
From the very first day of my time in Congress, I've sounded the alarm about the dangers of nonstop borrowing against our children and grandchildren's future. What I’m Reading & Why It Matters
This week, I'm reading this article in the Wall Street Journal on how labor productivity appears to be falling despite strong job growth numbers, which could make it harder to keep inflation in check. I also wanted to share this article in WSJ detailing how companies and researchers are exploring oil-and-gas reservoirs in search of lithium for electric car batteries.
Lastly, here's a story in the Washington Post on senior citizens flocking to homeless shelters around Phoenix, with many shelters unable to accommodate the shear number of older adults coming and going.
