Dear ,

I hope you and your family are doing well! I wanted to provide a few updates on my work this past week for the residents of Arizona’s First Congressional District.

Hosting Disruptive Health Care Companies For Conversation on Reducing Costs For Patients

Image

Last week, I hosted several health care companies for an event at the U.S. Capitol where we talked about the importance of modernizing technology to disrupt the cost of health care and transform Americans' medicine cabinets to promote a healthier society. Joining us at the event were representatives from Phesi, iTolerance, and Makana Health. Thanks to all our participants for pushing the conversation as we continue to research and conduct trials for cures that are affordable and accessible for patients.

Yesterday, I presented the community achievement award to the Arizona Equine Rescue Organization and the Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center for their work rescuing wild animals in danger throughout our state. Thank you for protecting Arizona's wildlife!

'Armageddon' Awaits if U.S. Continues to Borrow Debt at Unsustainable Pace

On Thursday, I delivered a speech on the House Floor where I discussed how House Republicans exercised some fiscal restraint during the debt ceiling agreement by reducing the amount of debt held by the public in 2033 to 114%, according to the Congressional Budget Office. I also noted the contrasts between the spending cuts that were achieved in this deal as opposed to Democrats extracting billions in additional spending in previous debt ceiling negotiations.

Small Business Paperwork Savings Act Passes Ways and Means Committee

Image

Last week, the House Ways and Means Committee included my legislation to increase the Form 1099 reporting threshold from $600 to $5,000 in its signature economic package to help struggling families, grow jobs, and support a stronger economy.

This IRS reporting rule is nearly 70 years old and has never been adjusted for inflation. The Small Business Paperwork Savings Act lifts an incredible burden off of American entrepreneurs, allowing them to better serve their customers, focus on their craft, and invest in job creation.

The Ways and Means legislative package passed out of Committee and now heads to the House Floor for a full vote.

What I’m Reading & Why It Matters

Image

This week, I'm reading a report from the Manhattan Institute charting a path forward on implementing sustainable spending caps on discretionary appropriations.

I also encourage you to read this Forbes article on recent advances using Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats, or CRISPR, to treat a rare genetic disorder causing severe vision loss that progressively damages the retina. Lastly, I'm reading this study in Science Direct on the effects of fat accumulation and distribution on cancer risk in females and males.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update on my latest work in Washington, D.C. and Arizona’s First Congressional District! If you have any comments or concerns, I encourage you to reach out to my office.

Sincerely,
