Dear ,

I hope you and your family are doing well! I wanted to provide a few updates on my work this past week for the residents of Arizona’s First Congressional District.

One Step Closer to Expanding Affordable Pumped Storage Hydropower in Arizona

Last week, the House Natural Resources Committee passed my bipartisan legislation enabling the exploration of constructing additional pumped storage hydropower facilities in the Salt River reservoir system to keep energy costs low for Arizonans, help stabilize the state's electric grid during peak demand, and boost the supply of affordable and reliable energy.

Specifically, this bill will make additional land available by clarifying Bureau of Reclamation's jurisdiction with respect to the development of pumped storage on the Salt River. With our state’s economy and population rapidly growing, it’s absolutely critical that we embrace long-term domestic technologies to ensure lower utility costs for our local communities. I look forward to seeing this bipartisan legislation move to the House Floor for a vote soon.

As Borrowing Costs Skyrocket, Americans Should Be Concerned About Their Own Retirement Savings

Image

On Thursday, I delivered a speech on the House Floor emphasizing how borrowing costs have gotten so out of control that the conversation is no longer just about saving our grandkids' future, it's also about saving our own retirement plans.

With the federal government borrowing $63,000 per second over the last 12 months, even left-wing publications like The Atlantic are starting to come to grips with just how bad our national debt has become. At the current rate, all the major federal trust funds will become insolvent in nine years.

The wheels are clearly coming off, and my brothers and sisters in Congress must begin to take our debt seriously.

Biden's Global Tax Scheme Surrenders U.S. Sovereignty to Foreign Competitors

Image

Click here or on the image above to watch my remarks.

At a Ways and Means Tax Subcommittee hearing last week, I pointed out how President Biden's global minimum tax scheme is a bad deal for the United States. It allows foreign countries to collect billions in tax receipts that would otherwise go to American taxpayers and businesses. My colleagues and I are working hard to ensure the Biden administration doesn't surrender U.S. sovereignty and competitiveness to foreign companies.

What I’m Reading & Why It Matters

Image

This week, I'm reading an article in Forbes laying out helpful tips for victims of identity theft and unemployment insurance (UI) fraud related to UI programs propped up during the COVID-19 pandemic. Estimates of unemployment benefits stolen by criminals during the pandemic range from $60 billion to as much as $400 billion.

If you have been the victim of fraud, report it to the Arizona Department of Economic Security. Be sure to check out this list of signs you've been a victim of UI fraud as well as ways to protect your identity.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update on my latest work in Washington, D.C. and Arizona’s First Congressional District! If you have any comments or concerns, I encourage you to reach out to my office.

Sincerely,
