Dear ,

I hope you and your family are doing well! I wanted to provide a few updates on my work this past week for the residents of Arizona’s First Congressional District.

Bringing Awareness to Valley Fever

Image

Last week, I led a roundtable discussion with Speaker Kevin McCarthy (CA-20), former NFL superstar Rob Gronkowski, and representatives from Anivive Lifesciences at the U.S. Capitol to raise awareness about the debilitating impacts of Valley Fever on both humans and pets as well as the urgency to develop a cure to eradicate the disease for good.

As co-chairmen of the congressional Valley Fever Task Force for the past decade, Speaker McCarthy and I are committed to collaborating with medical professionals and stakeholders to continue making progress to foster new advancements in prevention and treatment.

It's stunning to think that just 10 years ago, the American public knew little about Valley Fever and the devastating effects this disease can inflict upon our communities, particularly in Arizona. What once was misdiagnosed as cancer can now be correctly identified as Valley Fever.

Image

Now more than ever, our Valley Fever Task Force remains laser-focused on bringing awareness and streamlining resources to deliver a cure that provides much-needed relief to families, friends, and beloved pets who have suffered from this terrible disease for far too long.

For more information on the harmful consequences of Valley Fever, check out this NBC News article detailing the disease's rapid spread across the western United States and the hope for a vaccine that will work in both humans and pets in the near future.

I delivered a speech on the House Floor last Wednesday to discuss how the United States federal government has borrowed $72,932 every second over the past year and pointed out that every dime that Congress votes on is now on borrowed money. I also explained the consequences facing America’s middle class if Congress fails to exercise fiscal restraint.

What I’m Reading & Why It Matters

Image

This week, I'm reading a report published by the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering which reveals that an inverse vaccine developed by researchers at the school has demonstrated in the lab setting that it can completely reverse autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes without shutting down the rest of the immune system.

The inverse vaccine removes the immune system's memory of one molecule, stopping autoimmune reactions in which the immune system attacks a person's healthy tissues.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update on my latest work in Washington, D.C. and Arizona’s First Congressional District! If you have any comments or concerns, I encourage you to reach out to my office.

Sincerely,
