The State Of The Union Address, Tackling The Opioid Crisis, FEMA & More

Dear Neighbor,

The first week back in Washington, D.C. after spending time in the district was certainly eventful. With Biden's first State of the Union, a hearing on setbacks within the FEMA workforce, meetings with school administrators, an opioid addiction roundtable, and much more, we had a jam-packed week discussing issues affecting Floridians.

Additionally, we are closely monitoring Russia's war against Ukraine. During this difficult time for our allies in Ukraine, I ask that you join me in continually praying for the Ukrainian people as they fight against Putin's brazen attacks on their country.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

In Liberty,

House Homeland Security Subcommittee Hearing On FEMA Policies & Procedures

Image

During this week's House Homeland Security Committee Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Recovery hearing, we talked about FEMA's steps to make sure their policies and procedures address the workforce challenges faced by the agency. The abundance of natural disasters we've seen over the past year are exhausting the workforce, creating immense burnout amongs employees. During the hearing, we discussed the various ways in which the agency is proactively working to solve this issue. You can watch my full opening statement by clicking the button below.

Gearing Up For The State Of The Union

Image

On Tuesday, I joined Mornings with Maria on Fox Business to discuss my predictions for Biden's State of the Union. In reality, it should have been the shortest in American history because there's not a whole lot to celebrate. The historic border crisis, crime crisis, economic crisis, overseas debacles in Afghanistan and weakness toward Russia, and more have put a weight on America's shoulders like we've never seen before. Discussing The Opioid Crisis With Dr. Pannel

Image

On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Pannel, who participated in the Select Committee on the Economy roundtable on addiction and the opioid crisis. As more drugs pour across our borders and enter our communities, the threat of opioid overdoses will continue to rise nationwide. Fentanyl was the number one cause of death for Americans 18-45 last year and the problem is poised to get worse.

Thank you to Dr. Pannel and the other panelists for their efforts in combating this crisis. I look forward to having more conversations like this in the future as we continue to fight the flow of opioids into the United States.

Meeting With The Florida Association of School Administrators

Image

I had a great meeting with representatives of the Florida Association of School Administrators Wednesday afternoon. We discussed the school administrators’ important work in Clay County, Green Cove Springs, and Polk County to help teachers and students succeed, including ensuring parents have a say in their children's education. Quality education is vital to the growth and development of future generations, and I'm always glad to hear from the very educators working hard to shape young minds.

Standing Up To Vaccine Mandates And Government Overreach

Image

Yesterday, I was pleased to introduce the SMALL GOVT Act with my friend and fellow Florida member, Congressman Gus Bilirakis. This bill prevents the use of federal funds by entities or organizations that discriminate on COVID vaccination status. It also ensures that people give informed consent before receiving the vaccine as an adult and for parents to give permission for minors under 18.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the government cannot make your medical decisions for you. That's why I'm proud to introduce a bill that limits government overreach to protect Americans' medical freedom. You can read more by clicking the button below.

The Worsening Crisis In Ukraine

Image

Yesterday, I joined Newsmax to discuss the heightening crisis in Ukraine. When you look at the tragedy unfolding in Ukraine, Biden has tiptoed around the issue and has walked on eggshells, leaving the world in a precarious position because of his weakness. We need to unleash our energy production capabilities, stop our dependence on Russia for oil, and cut Russia off at the knees.

Please join me in steadfast and repeated prayers for the citizens of Ukraine, as they fight for their God-given right to freedom.

Touring The Loncala Farm & Ranch

Image

Recently I had the opportunity to tour Loncala, a 50,000-acre farm managing timber and agriculture land in and around Florida's Third Congressional District. Most of Loncala's holdings are used for forestry, cattle, and farming, with the headquarters in our beloved High Springs. At present, Loncala manages a 400-head cow/calf operation, and also grows hay and grass seed.

As one of the largest farm operations in Florida's Third Congressional District, I had a blast touring the property and production facilities myself, and I'm proud to support Florida's farmers and ranchers.

Supporting The 9th Annual Construction Career Days

Image

My team attended the 9th Annual Construction Career Days events in Northeast Florida this week where thousands of students from across the area learned about construction trades and got to try their hands on a number of machines. As Florida continues to grow, construction will only become more important to serve new neighborhoods, roads, and more.

It is extraordinary seeing the growth of the construction trade right here at home. I look forward to attending more events like this in the future, and I'm proud to support Florida's construction industry.

Meeting With The Florida Association Of Broadcasters

Image

Earlier this week, the Florida Association of Broadcasters visited with Florida members in Washington, D.C. to talk about their support for radio and TV in Florida, and how they work to keep the public informed through a variety of outlets across the state. With all the crises happening at home and abroad, providing Floridians with the most up-to-date information is highly important. Thanks to the Florida Association of Broadcasters for sharing your work with me.

Recognizing Florida's 177th Year As A State

Image

On Thursday, we recognized 177 years since Florida became a state! We're lucky to live in the best state in the union, with tremendous freedoms and opportunities for all of us. With incredible natural wonders, people, and places across the state, I'm so proud to be a member of the Florida delegation, representing Florida's Third Congressional District and third largest state in the U.S. in D.C.

Celebrating The Grand Opening Of The Anodyne Pain And Wellness Center

Image

While I traveled back home yesterday afternoon, my team celebrated the opening of Anodyne Pain and Wellness Center in Ocala. With the goal of treating pain holistically without opioids, Anodyne’s team is excited to continue supporting the health and well-being of those in Florida's Third Congressional District. We can't wait to see how Anodyne is going to help the local community through their important work, and I commend them for their efforts to end the opioid epidemic through holistic medicines and treatments.
