Fighting For Florida Agriculture & Small Businesses

Dear Neighbor,

This week was the last of a long D.C. stretch. I'm grateful to be head back home to Florida and to share the latest updates from Capitol Hill. I look forward to seeing many of you next week all across Florida's Third for National Agriculture Week celebrations in North Central and Northeast Florida.

While we are doing as much as we can in Congress to combat the rising prices and inflation this administration has created, it certainly does not underscore the fact that Floridians are hurting. During this week's telephone town hall, poll results showed 97 percent of respondents on the call noticed rising prices at the pump, and 87 percent said they disapprove of the administration's performance over the last 15 months. With numbers like these, it's hard to ignore the crises we're dealing with right here at home. This week I spoke specifically to producers and small business owners about the barriers to their prosperity over the last year and a half.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

March Telephone Town Hall Poll Results

Image

On Monday, March 14th, I held my monthly telephone town hall to answer questions from constituents and gauge how they're feeling about the path our nation is on right now. During the call, we heard from folks who shared what they're most concerned about. The number one issue for constituents in Florida's Third Congressional District? The economy and inflation as money flies out of their pockets for gas and groceries. Soaring prices around the country are hurting everyone in nearly every industry, so it's vital that we fight inflation and foster an economy where everyone can thrive.

Introducing The Small-Scale LNG Access Act

Image

Yesterday afternoon, I introduced the Small-Scale LNG Access Act, a bill to reinforce the importance of our domestic energy production with our liquified natural gas (LNG) capabilities and export options. It's past time to depend on Russia and Venezuela. As a global leader in the export of LNG, the United States faces fierce competition from dangerous foreign regimes, including Russia and Iran. With current geopolitical and concerns, investing in LNG at any scale will provide long-term benefits, support American jobs, foster American energy independence, and ensure the U.S. leads the way as a leading producer of clean energy.

Supporting American Energy Independence

Image

This week, I was pleased to join Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Rep. Bruce Westerman
on the American Energy Independence from Russia Act, a bill to flip the switch on U.S. energy production. It's past time we become independent from other countries from energy. We're ready to unleash our own capabilities, and with gas prices skyrocketing around the country, independence is needed now more than ever.

Meeting With The City Of Ocala

Image

On Tuesday, I met with our local leaders from the City of Ocala! We talked about issues facing the area, including broadband, affordable housing, economic development opportunities, and the opioid crisis in Florida's Third Congressional District. It's always great getting to meet with members of the community in D.C., and I look forward to more fruitful discussions about how we can work together to improve the City of Ocala.

Subcommittee Hearing On Small Businesses

Image

On Wednesday's Select Committee on the Economy Subcommittee hearing on small businesses, I shared several stories from our district about the impact current inflation has on their operations. Coming from a family of cattle ranchers, I understand the vital importance small businesses play in providing for our local communities, and with the current inflation, business owners and consumers in Florida's Third Congressional District are hurting. I was grateful for the opportunity to speak during this hearing to share how the current economic state is impacting Florida's Third.

Talking With Lt. Col. Adrian Cuarta

Image

On Wednesday morning, I met with Lt. Col. Adrian Cuarta of the Florida Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, learning more about the important work CAP does to provide disaster recovery, emergency services, and relief work. As a member of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on
Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Recovery, I was grateful for the opportunity to talk with Lt. Col. Cuarta about these important issues, especially in the wake of storms that have recently hit part of Florida's Third Congressional District.

Fighting Against Unjust Mask Mandates

Image

If we're really following the science, we'd end the arbitrary mask mandates on airplanes. This week, I was glad to join Rep. Doug LaMalfa and 90 other of my House GOP colleagues in calling for the mandate to expire. It's time we return back to normal in every aspect of daily life, including air travel.

Delivering Testimony During The Agriculture  Committee Hearing

Image

During the House Agriculture Committee hearing on Wednesday, I voiced my frustrations about the Committee's handling of core issues that are facing our nation's growing and producing industries. At a time when our farmers are facing historic challenges—rising costs of business, supply chain shortages, and more—this committee chooses to hold another redundant, tone-deaf hearing on a wishlist of liberal climate agenda items. It's truly appalling that over the last 15 months, the Agriculture Committee has held six hearings about climate change, and one about production in agriculture. The industry is hurting, and they've done nothing to help.

Meeting With Axogen Nerve Repair

Image

On Monday while I was in the Gainesville District Office, I had a great meeting with Axogen, a developer of surgical solutions based in Alachua. This crew, along with their nearly 500 employees, specialize in nerve regeneration using cutting-edge tech to repair damaged nerves. We're lucky to have them in our backyard, and I was grateful for the opportunity to discuss their impacts on our local community.

Zelenskyy Congress Address Powerful, But No-Fly Zone A No-Go, Lawmakers Say (Washington Examiner)

"Enforcing a no-fly zone means American troops on the ground. You don't plant a sign and say this is a no-fly zone — that requires young men and women in uniform donning the American flag in country, boots on the ground shooting down Russian jets," Cammack told the Washington Examiner. "I'm not ready to send American troops in harm's way. That's just not where we need to be."
