Asking Critical Questions & Attending Celebrations Back Home

Dear Neighbor,

This week while I was in Washington, D.C., my colleagues and I asked some crucial questions that Floridians need answers to. As citizens in rural areas still go without sufficient access to broadband, I teamed up with my colleague Rep. Costa to send a letter to the USDA about its funding of the ReConnect program. Additionally, as the administration deflects on its handling of our foreign adversaries, dozens of my colleagues from the Republican Study Committee joined me in sending a letter to the president requesting answers on the lack of sanctions against China for its significant support of North Korea's missile program.

Additionally, while I was back home for the weekend, my team and I attended two celebratory events. As our Winter Olympians from Ocala arrived back on U.S. soil with their medals, I attended the welcome-home parade in their honor. Also on Saturday, I had the honor of speaking at the Vietnam Veterans Day Ceremony in Green Cove Springs, recognizing the national observance of the day U.S. troops withdrew from Vietnam and the many veterans who served there.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

Requesting The Guarantee Of Honor Flights For Veterans

Image

On Monday, I joined Congressman Neal Dunn and my Florida colleagues in a letter making sure that the U.S. Park Police continue their important vehicular escort services. For decades, Honor Flight veterans have visited our nation's capital, getting to see the very monuments dedicated to their heroic efforts, service, and sacrifice in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Now, however, the United States Park Police are reconsidering their vital role in providing necessary escort and transportation services to our veterans during their visits.

Our veterans deserve the best, and continuing to provide Honor Flight veterans with the necessary escort services for their visits to Washington, D.C. is simply the right thing to do.

Inflation At The Pump Hurting Americans Everywhere

Image

Early this week, the president's budget revealed so-called "new funding requests for the police." This, amid plummeting poll numbers and Democrats reading the writing on the wall: November is not going to be pretty for them. When congressional Democrats and this administration put their money where their mouths are, instead of calling to defund the police as they've done repeatedly over the last couple years — well, I’ll believe it when I see it.

It's nothing more than a failed virtue signal from this administration and the American people see right through it.

Connecting Rural Americans To Better Broadband

Image

On Wednesday, dozens of my colleagues joined me on a letter to USDA Secretary Vilsack regarding the ReConnect program, a valuable, evidence-based Department of Agriculture initiative that serves the most underserved rural communities across the country, providing access to high-speed, reliable, affordable internet access. In leading this bipartisan letter with my colleague Rep. Costa, we are requesting that the USDA carefully consider future rounds of ReConnect funding to make every effort to serve the communities who are not served by other broadband programs.

Holding China & North Korea Accountable

Image

With growing provocations with missile tests by North Korea, this administration repeatedly turns a blind eye to the significant financial assistance from China to aid these dangerous North Korean activities. Despite several missile launches and provocations, Biden and this State Department have repeatedly failed to hold China and other countries, including Russia, accountable for their actions, and we want answers.

I led a letter with dozens of my Republican Study Committee colleagues to Secretary Blinken asking important questions about what more must be done and why it hasn't happened yet.

Reacting To "Woke" Disney

Image

This week, it was revealed that the Walt Disney Company plans to remove all mentions of gender from its theme parks, just days after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law the Parental Rights in Education bill.

When families and kids visit Disney World, they're there to have fun, see the characters, and make memories that will last a lifetime. Instead, Disney has bought into the false narrative around Florida's parental rights bill that Gov. DeSantis signed into law. It's wrong, and just another attempt by the woke left to erase traditional values.

Giving The First Capitol Tour In Two Years

Image

Yesterday, our office gave its first Capitol tour of the 117th Congress to constituents of Florida's Third Congressional District! After two years of closures following the COVID-19 shutdown, the United States Capitol is finally re-opening to the public, and we could not be more excited for the return to normalcy. Capitol tours are a key service offered to constituents, and it is about time the people's house returns to the people.

Due to the limited availability of Capitol tours, we are working hard to accommodate all of our guests from Florida’s Third Congressional District. You can learn more about booking a tour through our office here or by clicking the button below.

Commemorating National Vietnam War Veterans Day

Image

On Saturday, I had the honor of attending and speaking at the National Vietnam War Veterans Day Ceremony in Green Cove Springs, recognizing the national observance of the day U.S. troops withdrew from Vietnam and the many veterans who served there.

Very few Vietnam veterans returned home to the proper thanks and gratitude they deserved following the unpopular war, but it's our responsibility and duty to thank them for their service and sacrifice for our nation and the freedoms we hold dear. Here in Florida's Third, we have thousands of veterans who keep the spirit of service and sacrifice alive, and we are grateful every day for those who continually answer the call of service and put their lives on the line.

Celebrating Ocala's Olympians

Image

Last Saturday in Ocala, we had the excellent opportunity to recognize the Winter Olympians from Florida's Third Congressional District! With a parade through downtown Ocala, we welcomed home our decorated speedskaters—Erin Jackson, Joey Mantia, and Brittany Bowe. They made us all proud with their huge wins on the world stage, setting records and making North Central Florida proud to claim them! Congratulations once again to our Team USA athletes for all of their hard work and the medals they brought home. We're beyond proud to celebrate you and go Ocala!

Meeting With The National Weather Service Following Storms In North Central Florida

Image

I spoke with the top leadership at the National Weather Service (NWS) on Wednesday afternoon to discuss our severe storm damage in Ocala and Marion County earlier this month. After an unannounced tornado touched down early that Saturday morning, outages in the detection systems that monitor our area raised many questions about what happened.

I am committed to working with NOAA and the NWS to ensure this never happens again and am grateful to Governor DeSantis for making funds available for homes and businesses damaged by this storm. We will continue providing updates about these important next steps.
