The End Of Title 42 & Its Future Impact On The Southern Border

Dear Neighbor,

As the crisis at our southern border persists, the Biden administration continues to take measures that weaken our national security, encouraging thousands of immigrants to enter our country illegally. With the removal of Title 42, a Trump-era policy that allowed the United States to quickly expel migrants to their country of origin or Mexican border towns, Customs & Border Protection expects that more than 50,000 immigrants will be crossing our border over the next six weeks.

While Democrats continue to work and vote by proxy from the comfort of their own homes, they don't seem to care about the two million immigrants that have poured over the border since Biden took office over a year ago. Instead of working to tackle this issue, along with gas prices, inflation supply chain issues, and more, Democrats continue to blame everyone but themselves for the damage they've caused. It's not lost on me or the American people.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

Title 24 Roundtable Press Conference

Image

On Monday, I joined a press conference and roundtable with a small group of my colleagues to sound the alarm on the end to Title 42 and what it means for our border security. You've heard me talk about it dozens of times before: Title 42 is a public health order instituted by the Trump administration to turn illegal immigrants around at the border amid the COVID pandemic. Through court battles over the last year and a half, the order remained in place, but the Biden administration will now ensure it expires in May.

We have already encountered over two million illegals at the southern border since the start of 2021. Ending Title 42 is just what immigrants have been waiting to hear and it's going to further stretch our CBP officials' enforcement, surveillance, and protection capabilities.

Homeland Security Committee Hearing On Russian Cyber Threats

Image

On Tuesday morning's Homeland Security Committee hearing, we discussed the cybersecurity threats posed by Russia. Last year we endured the JBS cyberattack, affecting our national and food security. It's important that we continue prioritizing our preparedness for cyber defense, especially in the wake of what's happening overseas.

Agriculture Committee Hearing On Renewable Energy In Rural America

Image

Tuesday morning's House Agriculture Committee hearing featured many questions from my Democrat colleagues about renewable energy. I'm all for it, but what this admin. and congressional Democrats fail to recognize is that rural America is hurting. With rising fuel prices, rural American can't keep up.

I will continue bringing attention to what's happening to our farmers, ranchers, and producers, and will continue to fight on behalf of Florida's hardworking men and women in industries across the ag. sectors.

Meeting With The Florida Gubernatorial Fellows

Image

On Tuesday night, I had the opportunity to meet with this year's group of Florida Gubernatorial Fellows. This program, run through Governor Ron DeSantis' office in Tallahassee, encourages civic engagement with young leaders in the Sunshine State. Each year they make the trip to D.C. to visit with the Florida delegation and it was so great to see them. I look forward to seeing all they accomplish!

Visiting FEMA Headquarters

Image

Last week for FEMA’s 43rd anniversary, I joined colleagues from the Homeland Security Committee for a tour of FEMA’s HQ in Washington, D.C. We saw the National Response Coordination Center (NRCC) and spoke with Administrator Deanne Criswell and her team. As the lead Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee’s Subcommittee for Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Recovery, FEMA is so important to Florida and I’m grateful for the support they provide following natural disasters in the Sunshine State.

You can watch the full clip of my visit here or by clicking the button below.

Calling Out Democrats On The Removal Of Title 42

Image

On Wednesday, I took to the House Floor to call out Democrats on their decision to remove Title 42, making our border less secure than it has been since Biden took office last year. Unlike our trafficker-in-chief who would rather retreat to his beach house in Delaware or the so-called 'Border Czar' who visited El Paso once and figured that was good enough, I've visited the border three times to see this crisis for myself. As a member of the Homeland Security Committee, I have feared the very day that Title 42 would be rescinded for political purposes.

Recognizing The Month Of The Military Child

Image

April marks the National Month of the Military Child. My team and I want to extend our gratitude to all of our children across Florida's Third Congressional District and the nation who have lived many places, traveled the world, and shown dedication to the Stars in Stripes with their enlisted family members. We are grateful for their sacrifices as their parents serve our incredible nation.

Visiting Arc Of Putnam's Eddie Mooney Awards

Image

Last week while I was in D.C., members of my team attended the Arc of Putnam’s 24th Annual Eddie Mooney Awards in Palatka at the Ravine Gardens. The Arc of Putnam County provides advocacy, individually-tailored living environments, meaningful day activities, work training, employment services and support to residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and spina bifida. It is always a joy for us to see so many folks support these important community organizations, and I'm proud to see an event like this take place in Florida's Third Congressional District.

Speaking At The Gainesville Chapter Of The Daughters Of The American Revolution

Image

This past weekend in Gainesville, I had the honor of visiting with the Gainesville Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) at their 100th anniversary celebration. I spoke with the legendary Mrs. Roz Miller, current DAR members, past state officers, chapter regents, and their guests. These women work hard to support our community and share the importance of our U.S. history in North Central Florida. It was so great to see so many new and familiar faces for an outstanding event, and I look forward to attend more events with the DAR in the future!

Attending The Clay County Agricultural Fair

Image

Last weekend, I visited one of our favorite local events, the Clay County Fair and the Clay County Agricultural Fair! My team and I visited with local 4H and FFA students showing cows, pigs, chickens, goats, and so much more before supportive crowds from across North Central and Northeast Florida. Clay County does it right, and I'm so glad we have this incredible tradition in our area each year!

Thanks to everyone at the fair, its attendees, and all the hardworking folks who make this event possible. You can watch a short video of the fair here or by clicking the button below.
