DHS Secretary Mayorkas Visits Capitol Hill

Dear Neighbor,

This week was a big one on Capitol Hill, as Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas testified before several House committees. He appeared before the Homeland Security Committee where I asked him about his role in perpetuating the border crisis and the growing number of immigrants coming across the border as legal challenges to Title 42 make their way through the courts. While he said the crisis has been "effectively managed," my colleagues and I thoroughly disagree.

I'll be back home in Florida this coming week and look forward to seeing many of you throughout our district travels. I also encourage you to vote for your favorite high school art piece for the 2022 Congressional Art Competition. Please visit our Facebook page and click on the pinned post for instructions on how to vote. Voting ends next Thursday, May 5 at 5pm ET.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

Grilling Secretary Mayorkas During Homeland Security Committee Hearing

Image

During Wedneday's Homeland Security Committee hearing with DHS Sec. Mayorkas, I grilled this beyond incompetent agency leader. He admitted to me in the hearing that he believes it is important to follow the laws of the United States. He admitted that he believes that individuals should be arrested if they break the laws of the U.S. He admitted that he believes people should be arrested and deported if they enter the U.S. illegally.

If he believes all these things, why won't he do anything at our southern border? At this point, there's nothing this secretary can do that will save him from impeachment when we take the House back.

Emphasizing The Importance Of Title 42 At RSC Press Conference

Image

"Every town in America is a border town."

On Wednesday, I joined my colleagues in a press conference hosted by the Republican Study Committee to discuss the ongoing crisis at the southern border. In Marion County, Florida last week, more than 897 grams of fentanyl were seized from the streets—enough fentanyl to kill 500,000 Floridians.

Signing A Letter To Secretary Mayorkas About Title 42

Image

On Monday, I joined over 60 of my Republican colleagues in a letter to DHS Sec. Mayorkas about the administration's plans to secure the border and support CBP after Title 42 is lifted. The likely surge in illegal crossings means uncertainty for public health, especially as cases of tuberculosis, lice, scabies, and other diseases are on the rise at the southern border. We've expelled over 1.7 million immigrants under Title 42 since March 2020 and ending it now will only spell certain disaster for our national security.

Discussing The Administration's Response To The Ongoing Border Crisis

Image

On Tuesday, I joined Newsmax to discuss Secretary Mayorkas' appearance before the House Homeland Security Committee. He's a professional politician who knows how to distract, deflect, and misdirect, but we won't let him off of the hook. When he doesn't provide us answers about the border crisis and Title 42, he's staring down impeachment when Republicans take the House back this November.

Agriculture Committee Hearing On Cow-Calf Operations

Image

During Wednesday's House Agriculture Committee hearing, Democrats wasted our valuable time, oversimplifying a complicated issue and avoiding talking about the facts facing our cattle producers across Florida and the nation. Every minute wasted is one that thwarts valuable solutions, including for the hundreds of cow-calf operations in the Sunshine State. I will always stand up for our producers and as the lone Florida Republican on the House Agriculture Committee, this mission couldn't be any more important.

Meeting With Local Faith Leaders

Image

Last Wednesday, I joined several faith leaders in our Florida's Third community for a roundtable discussion about the top issues they're facing and the important work they do in our community. Several spoke about parental rights in Florida, education, tax concerns for faith-based organizations, and more. I'm always so proud of the incredible work of people in our area and I look forward to following their ministries' work.

Molly's Law Documentary Premieres In Marion County

Image

This past weekend, Team Kat attended the documentary premiere for Molly's Law, a Marion County ordinance that prevents animal abuse and neglect in the community by prohibiting animal abusers from owning, working with, or being near animals with the creation of an animal abuser registry. Molly, a beloved member of the Marion County community and the dog after whom the policy is named, was brutally abused by a criminally convicted animal abuser, but who went on to find a home with the Ocala SPCA president after making a full recovery. Molly has become the ambassador for the registry and inspires hope about survival after such brutal treatment.

Molly's story is inspirational and I hope you'll join me in thanking our hardworking animal abuse advocates for making this possible.

AERO Aggregates Grand Opening In Ocala

Image

This week while I was in Washington, D.C., Team Kat attended the Aero Aggregates Grand Opening Ceremony with the Ocala CEP. Aero Aggregates takes recycled glass and turns it into construction aggregate for local producers, diverting waste from landfills to new construction projects in our region!

We're proud to have this business in Florida's Third Congressional District and are grateful for more innovative groups in North Central Florida.

Rep. Cammack Warns Democrats Of 'Red Wave' In Midterms: 'Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes'

Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., said Democrats are going to lose control in the 2022 midterm elections because of the party's support of lax border policies and calls to defund police. Cammack said on "Fox & Friends" Tuesday that Democrats are playing "stupid games" which will result in a red wave at the polls.
