Honoring Our Nation's Military And Praying For Uvalde, Texas

Dear Neighbor,

As we head into Memorial Day Weekend, I'd like to pay special tribute to our nation's men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces. Throughout the month of May I have been fortunate to attend various memorials and service events honoring our heroes across the United States, as well as those right here at home in Florida's Third Congressional District. To the families of our fallen, our veterans, and all actively in uniform who so courageously defend our freedoms, thank you for all that you do.

Additionally, I'd like to take a moment to recognize everyone affected by the tragedy that took place in Uvalde, Texas this week. My heart absolutely breaks for the families of the children and teachers taken way too soon. This senseless violence by an evil, sick individual took innocent lives, and I join the millions of Americans praying for these families whose lives have changed forever. May God comfort and protect these grieving families going through this unimaginable tragedy.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

In Liberty,

Honoring Our Nation's Heroes During Military Appreciation Month

Image

This month, my team and I salute all of the men and women of our U.S. Armed Forces who work tirelessly to protect our nation at home and abroad. Our heroes in uniform make the ultimate sacrifice in service of defending our citizens and our freedoms, and we're forever grateful for the highest form of courage and bravery the members of our military exemplify around the world.

As Memorial Day approaches on Monday, I invite you to keep those we've lost in your thoughts, and I hope you'll join me in thanking our heroes for all they do.

Discussing Federal Judge's Ruling On End Of Title 42

Image

Late last week, I joined the Evening Edit on Fox Business to discuss a federal judge's recent ruling that blocks the Biden administration from lifting Title 42, the public health order used to quickly expel migrants in preventing the spread of communicable diseases in the country. Almost one-quarter of a million immigrants were apprehended at our southern border in April—the highest number since the Biden Border Crisis began. If Title 42 ends, this number will only grow, threatening our national security and communities across the country.

Recognizing National Poppy Day

Image

Today marks National Poppy Day, a day to recognize the service and sacrifice of Americans who have served our nation and those who have died in the line of duty. The poppy, which grew abundantly in European fields during World War I, became the symbol for the American Legion in honoring the brave men and women who have fought for the Stars and Stripes. Each year, members of the American Legion Family distribute poppy flowers across the nation to honor the fallen and support the living who have worn our nation's uniform.

On this day, I'm proud to wear a poppy in honoring the sacrifice our men and women in uniform make everyday.

Delivering Books To Lake Butler Elementary School With 'Read To Lead' Program

Image

Late last week, I visited Lake Butler Elementary School in Union County to deliver books from the Library of Congress Book Surplus Program to first and third graders. Along with books donated to their classrooms, the students each got to take a book home for their own libraries, emphasizing the importance of reading and learning for a lifetime of success. We're so excited to see the Read To Lead program growing. You can watch a short video of my visit here.

If you're a teacher or parent in Florida's Third Congressional District interested in learning more about our program, visit our website at the button below to submit your (child's) classroom.

Attending The Blue Star By-Way Marker Ceremony

Image

This past Saturday, members of Team Kat attended the Garden Club of Middleburg's Blue Star By-Way Marker Ceremony. The marker honors the men and women of our Armed Forces and the Blue Star Highway System, which began after World War II as a living memorial to veterans with dogwood trees planted along our nation's highways. The "small but mighty" Middleburg Garden Club will carry on this tradition and share their patriotism with the rest of the Clay County community.

Honoring Hometown Hero Ssg. Seth Plant

Image

On Monday, Team Kat attended a procession in Bradford County for one of FL-03's own hometown heroes, Ssg. Seth Michael Plant. Thousands lined the streets through downtown Starke, Penney Farms, and Green Cove Springs to pay their respects to Seth, son of Mike and Joy Plant, who was born and raised in Starke before moving to St. Augustine and enlisting in the Army.

Ssg. Plant was tragically killed while stationed with the U.S. Army in Alaska on May 10. There is not a more fitting tribute of Seth's life and his love for his home than this touching, final procession through his favorite place. Rest in peace, Staff Sergeant. Our community will never forget you.

Celebrating The Grand Opening For The Harbor Deepening Project At JAXPORT

Image

On Monday morning at Jacksonville Port Authority, we celebrated the ribbon-cutting and grand opening for the harbor deepening project at the Blount Island Terminal. The project deepened 11 miles of the federal shipping channel to a depth of 47 feet form its previous depth of 40 feet. Florida continues to lead the way for maritime transportation as and I'm grateful for the work and investment in this project, which will only create more opportunities to strengthen our supply chain and make the Sunshine State a top destination for domestic and international destinations.

Celebrating The Grand Opening Of The UF Veterinary Hospital At The World Equestrian CenterImage

On Thursday, my team and I had the great opportunity to stop by the grand opening preview of the UF Veterinary Hospital at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala! This new 40,000 square foot hospital offers state-of-the-art care for equine and small animal care, allowing animal owners from Ocala and the surrounding area to benefit from increased access to care during a time of high demand. It was so great to see this wonderful partnership between UF and WEC, and I'm proud to represent both the Gator Nation and the World Equestrian Center in Florida's Third Congressional District.
