Touring Local Manufacturers, Highlighting Children's Mental Health & More

Dear Neighbor,

While I was back home in Florida's Third Congressional District this past week, I had the opportunity to learn more about various local manufacturers. My team and I spoke with leaders from United Plastic Fabricating, Inc. and Hale Products about their great innovations and contributions to their respective industries. As a supporter of small businesses, I'm always eager to learn more about how we can help our manufacturers and entrepreneurial leaders in Florida's Third.

Additionally, this week, I joined dozens of my colleagues in bringing awareness to the youth mental health crisis we're seeing across the U.S. Since COVID severely impacted social interaction among young children and teens, rates of teen depression and suicide have been on the rise. This issue is one that requires serious attention if we want to prevent these tragedies in the future, and I'm passionate about finding solutions to this crisis.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

Celebrating Independence Day

Image

On Monday, July 4th, my team and I celebrated Independence Day! We are truly are blessed to celebrate the Stars and Stripes, a symbol of freedom and democracy around the world. I'd like to send a special thanks to our military, law enforcement officers, and first responders for their work keeping communities around the United States safe. We hope that all our folks from Florida's Third Congressional District had a happy Independence Day!

Requesting CDC Data Regarding The Child Mental Health Crisis & Suicide Rates

Image

Last week, I joined several dozen colleagues in calling on the CDC to release data on child suicides in 2021. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth ages 15-24. According to a May 2020 CDC study, emergency department visits for suicide attempts among adolescents aged 12-17 was 39 percent higher than the same period in 2019.

The pandemic dramatically worsened the mental health of our youth, exacerbated by social media, virtual classrooms, and years of normal interaction lost to COVID. The CDC needs to release this data in order to properly respond to the mental health crisis we're seeing and determine how we can prevent tragedies such as these in the future.

Reacting To Rise In Violent Crime Across The U.S.

Image

On Wednesday, I joined the Evening Edit on Fox Business to discuss the rise in violent crime we're seeing across the U.S. The measures pushed by the Left continue to wage war against law-abiding citizens who exercise their constitutional rights and follow the laws. All these new gun control measures do are empower criminals and generate soft-on-crime policies across the country. There have to be consequences for the actions of our criminals and law enforcement officers will tell you that. These issues are forcing retirements of our police and first responders and it has to stop.

Sharing New '988' Suicide Prevention Lifeline

Image

On July 16, the U.S. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline phone number is transitioning to a three-digit number: 988. Beginning next Saturday, any individuals wishing to access appropriate crisis resources can dial this number to be immediately connected with help, instead of a long 10-digit number that is difficult to find.

This critical resource update is very important and has been in the works for a long time. You can learn more about the new 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline here or by clicking the button below.

Honoring Local Ocala Eagle Scout

Image

Team Kat extends our sincerest congratulations and deepest gratitude to Eagle Scout Logan Catalonotto for his completion of an important project in Ocala. Logan chose to tackle the renovation of the 50-flags plaza at Veterans Memorial Park in Ocala, undergoing and leading a months-long effort to rejuvenate the park with Troop 72.

The project took 100+ hours of planning, 696 hours of work, and over $20,000 in donations from the community. We're so grateful for Logan's dedication to our veterans and his patriotic spirit. Generations to come will enjoy the refreshed space and reflect on the service and sacrifice of our heroes.

Touring United Plastic Fabricating, Inc. In Ocala

Image

While back home in Florida's Third Congressional District, my team and I had the opportunity to take a tour of United Plastic Fabricating, Inc. in Ocala! United Plastic's Ocala facility is 78,000 square feet and is one of the locations where the company manufactures its leading poly tank in the fire service industry. With other locations in Massachusetts and Wisconsin, UPF is leading provider of quality solutions for the heroes among us.

Thanks again to United Plastic having our team and other Ocala-area leaders to see this top-notch operation.

Visiting Hale Products' Facilities In Marion County

Image

Last week, I had the opportunity to tour several manufacturers in Ocala and Marion County that manufacture important fire apparatus equipment to keep our first responders and our communities safe. Pictured here is Hale Products, a world-class manufacturer of pumps and other related technology equipment for the fire service. Hale has been in business for decades in our area, supporting American manufacturing and growth.

As the wife of a first responder, I'm grateful for Hale and its employees' hard work to keep the men and women of our first response agencies outfitted and safe.
