Marion County Leader Represents Florida's Third In Washington, D.C.

Dear Neighbor,

This week, I had the exciting opportunity to bring one of our own from Florida's Third to Washington, D.C. to testify during a hearing for the Homeland Security Committee's Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, & Recovery. Preston Bowlin, Emergency Management Director for the Marion County Sheriff's Office, answered questions from me and my colleagues about his experiences supporting underserved communities in his role. You can watch my opening statement below.

Additionally, my team at home in Florida's Third Congressional District has been busy attending local celebrations, including the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Army Reserve concentration site, the change-of-command ceremony at Naval Station Mayport, and more. It's always a pleasure seeing the ways our communities are innovating and giving back to our folks from Florida's Third.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

In Liberty,

On Tuesday morning, Marion County Sheriff's Office's own Emergency Management Director Preston Bowlin testified before the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Recovery to discuss the importance of supporting underserved communities in emergency management.

Meeting With Florida Gateway College President Dr. Larry Barrett

Image

On Tuesday, Florida Gateway College President Dr. Larry Barrett visited Washington, D.C. checking in with members of the Florida delegation and sharing the latest news about what his school has been up to over the last year. It was great to chat with him briefly between hearings and other meetings yesterday, and I'm always happy to learn more about what our schools in Florida are doing to support our students' futures.

Talking Pelosi's Response To Husband's Lucrative Stock Trading

Image

This week, I joined the Evening Edit on Fox Business to discuss Nancy Pelosi's husband's lucrative stock tracking activities. Paul Pelosi is a limousine liberal who benefits off of his wife's connections as Speaker of the House. His stock options and trading history indicate he may know something before the public does, but he won't be held accountable, at least not by Democrats.

Asking Critical Questions During Committee Hearing On Election Security

Image

Americans across the country are concerned about election integrity and voter identification. During this past week's hearing in the Homeland Security Committee focused on these issues, I asked several witnesses whether or not they or their organizations believe a voter ID should be required to vote.

Their answers were surprising, as many states do not have requirements for picture identification to cast a ballot. As we head into this year's midterms, this issue is more important than ever.

Meeting Virtually With The American Conservation Coalition

Image

This week, I spent some time with young leaders from the American Conservation Coalition
to talk more about our work in Florida. It was great having the opportunity to speak to the ACC about how conservatives can be champions for free-market conservation policies. Looking forward to having more, fruitful conversations like this in the future!

Blasting House Democrats For Political Theater Over Access To Contraceptives

Image

Yesterday, I took to the House Floor to blast Democrats for their sham of a bill. It's just another day in Washington, D.C. when liberals lie to the American people. Their bill, H.R. 8373, the "Right to Contraception Act," is a solution in need of a problem.

Nowhere in America is access to contraception being threatened—in no state, in no territory is this a problem. House Democrats are taking their tactics to a new level, bringing this bill to the Floor under false pretenses and a threat that does not exist. Provisions in the bill attempt to provide a back door for abortion service providers like Planned Parenthood to tap into federal tax dollars. This bill jeopardizes constitutional rights of individuals and organizations across this country.

Attending Groundbreaking Ceremony For New Army Reserve Concentration Site

Image

Last week while I was in Washington, D.C., members of Team Kat attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Army Reserve Concentration site, located at the old Alachua County Fairgrounds.

With the groundbreaking completed, construction will begin on the first concentration site in the state of Florida with an estimated completion date of 2024. Within Gainesville city limits, it will house 2,500 vehicles and offer over 100 high-paying jobs. Additionally, the 45,000+ square-foot facility will eliminate the need for Army Reserve units to travel more than 600 miles for equipment stored elsewhere.

Last Thursday, members of Team Kat celebrated the change-of-command ceremony at Naval Station Mayport as Captain Janet D. After 28 years of service, Captain Vlaun will retire and enjoy the continued success of CGSJ under Captain Espino-Young's leadership.
